In countries like Bangladesh, high academic pressures, including a late-night "coaching" culture, make later school start times even more critical says Daily Star writer Ayaz Kader.

"Even if the issue surrounding coaching classes is rectified, the bigger problem persists: early school starting hours," he notes. "Though daytime naps can offer a temporary relief from fatigue due to lack of sleep at night, it is a strategy that isn’t considered healthy or sustainable."

SSL in the News

In this podcast about "big ideas in education," host Dan Kearney chats with medical historian/science writer Terra Ziporyn and sleep psychologist Amy Wolfson, SSL board members and authors of the new book Educating the Exhausted: Adolescent Sleep and the Struggle for a Later School Start.
