Grants Pass v. Johnson
At Family Promise of Morris County, our commitment is clear: to combat homelessness with empathy and respect.
The recent Supreme Court decision in Grants Pass v. Johnson on 6/28 is deeply concerning, as it permits the penalization of individuals for homelessness, despite the lack of viable alternatives. This punitive approach not only fails those in crisis but also perpetuates the cycle of homelessness. Criminalizing homelessness is a counterproductive method that exacerbates rather than resolves the issue. This decision is already causing a wave of new policies in California and other areas that jeopardize those in need with no other housing options.
We advocate for effective strategies—such as increasing access to housing that people can afford and supportive services like healthcare and case management—that address the underlying causes of homelessness.
Each day, we witness the profound struggle of the housing crisis on vulnerable households. Every day, we also see the deep impact, hope, and joy that come from helping people transition into permanent housing. Programs like our county-supported Landlord Support Program, are addressing housing gaps and making a significant difference in our community.
Please join us in advocating at a local level to shape how our community responds to the crisis of homelessness.

2024 National Conference on Ending Homelessness
Our CEO, Joann Bjornson, joined Rev. Angela Fields, Executive Director of Family Promise of Hunterdon County, Inc., and Sybil St. Jean, Registered Nurse at Hunterdon Health, at the 2024 National Conference on Ending Homelessness and Capitol Hill Day.
Together, they led a session titled Better Together: Exploring Unique Collaborations and Partnerships.
They shared how to embrace a shared mission and amplify impact through nontraditional partnerships through engaging service providers, system leaders, advocates, and those with lived experience of homelessness. Participants left inspired and equipped with actionable steps and partnership ideas to move them forward!

Great news! Our new resource room is now open and ready to serve the community. This welcoming space provides information, referrals, support services, and access to computers, printers, and faxes.
Next, we are working on creating a special kids' corner. When families with children visit, the little ones can look forward to a fun, relaxing area with toys, books, and games to keep them happily engaged, allowing parents to chat more freely.
Please consider purchasing a new toy, book, game, wall décor or kid item for the Resource Room Kids’ Corner. Your generous donation will make our youngest visitors feel at home and show them how much our community cares. We are truly grateful for your support!
Gifts can be purchased easily on our Amazon Wish List: Resource Room Kids’ Corner
If you would like to come by and see the new space, please email impact@familypromisemorris.org to schedule a tour.
