THE HEALTH OF OUR YOUTH IS AN URGENT ISSUE THAT REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ACTION.
Today's children are projected to be the first generation in history to have a lifespan shorter than that of their parents [because of obesity related disease and illness]. At The Purple Potato Project, we believe that it is our responsibility to provide children with the tools they need to fight for their wellbeing - an education on proper nutrition as well as access to fresh, healthful foods.

To prevent obesity and reduce the severity of the obesity epidemic, The Purple Potato Project has an appropriately industrious three-pronged approach:
We will create a mobile learning center (nicknamed Migratory Murphy) from a refurbished city bus. The bus-turned-learning-center will house a number of anchored, self-guided, interactive displays as well as more in-depth, instructor-led food science demonstrations, activities, and experiments. Our initial fundraising goal of $1.5 million will cover the purchase, maintenance, refurbishment, and storage of a city bus as well as operating costs for one year.
2. ACCESS
In cooperation with Let's Move! Salad Bars to Schools (a non-profit founded in 2010) we will build and establish salad bars in local schools. We will also help fund school gardens, which will be constructed in cooperation with the school and maintained by students and PPP volunteers. Produce grown in the gardens will help sustain the school's salad bar, encouraging an understanding and appreciation for the journey food takes from the farm to the table.
3. PRACTICE
Using our years of experience and education in the culinary and dietetics fields (along with some serious love for customer service), The Purple Potato Project will create a treasure trove of resources to provide parents and teachers with recipes, games/projects/activities, information, and help. Our objective is to instill a hunger for science and for quality (not quantity) calories in children and their parents. Nutrition is fun! And delicious! We're excited about it. And we think everyone else should be too.
WE INTEND FOR MIGRATORY MURPHY TO VISIT AT LEAST ONE SCHOOL & REACH MORE THAN 100 CHILDREN BEFORE JANUARY 1st, 2014.
The Purple Potato Project's ambitious plans will require oodles of contributions. We need Austin's support - your support - to succeed.
Please let me know if I may provide additional information. If our mission interests you, I would love to continue this conversation. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. I greatly appreciate any help you can offer, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Very best,
Hannah Marshall
