Cointreau Files Lawsuit
to Block Controy in U.S.
Remy Cointreau has filed a trademark infringement suit in Texas federal court to prevent the Mexican orange liqueur Controy from being sold in the U.S., claiming that similarity of the name and bottle design infringe on Cointreau's trademarks.
Controy, currently sold in California and Texas by Pura Vida Tequila, is owned by Mexico-based La Madrilena.
Cointreau claimed that the sale of Controy is "a blatant attempt to trade off the hard-earned good will and reputation" of its trademarks.
Stewart Skloss, president of Pura Vida Tequila has another opinion on the matter...
