You may have heard two meteorological terms in the news recently: “Atmospheric River” and “Bomb Cyclone.” This December, our region experienced both—resulting in an unusually intense stretch of wind and rain across the Portland Metro Area and the Mid-Willamette Valley.
In just the first 20 days of December, we received more than 8 inches of rainfall, nearly double the typical monthly average for what is already the wettest month of the year. These conditions caused widespread landscape impacts, including fallen leaves, branches, and storm debris across many properties.
We take the effects of severe weather very seriously. Our crews have been actively responding to storm-related damage and working to restore the landscapes we maintain. While our typical goal is to have properties largely cleared of fall debris by this time of year, recent high winds created additional debris that required renewed attention.
Following the holiday break, our teams will continue working diligently to clean up affected areas and ensure sites are well maintained.
Looking Ahead to Winter
January marks the start of our major winter clean-up and spring preparation season. This work is essential to protecting plant health, maintaining site safety, and setting landscapes up for a strong spring.
Although the first half of December was mild, long-range forecasts continue to suggest a colder-than-normal winter may still be ahead. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and adjust our operations as needed.
Thank you for your patience and partnership during this active weather period. As always, we remain committed to keeping your property safe, healthy, and looking its best—no matter what the season brings.
