Our Christmas Luncheon at the Garden City Country Club on Thursday, 1 December was a festive gathering of more than 240 guests. Distinguished New York Times bestselling author Adriana Trigiani, regaled the group with comments about her life, her family, her career, and her latest novel. She very graciously emphasized the mission of The De La Salle School and the important role that Catholic Education plays in our society today. A special thank you to the parishioners of Our Holy Redeemer who attended and/or who purchased tickets for the cash raffle. Congratulations to the prize winners: $2,000- Arlene Lucas; $1,000- Joan Tomaszewski; $500- Elizabeth Williams.
On Thursday, 8 December the feast of the Immaculate conception, we had a visit from Detective Jeffrey Gross, President of the Detectives Association of the Nassau County Police Department along with several members of the Detectives Association. They came to bring a new winter coat to each student here at The De La Salle School. Prior to coming they had carefully coordinated with our staff to ensure that they had the correct size for each student. It was a great day for our students and a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet the members of law enforcement and hear about the great contributions they provide to the community beyond keeping us safe. Following the visit, we all attended the 12:10 mass for the Holy Day and gave thanks for the many blessings we receive from the community.
Our annual Hot Cocoa and Book Night was another wonderful evening shared with The De La Salle School family. The gymnasium was set up as a café for friends and family to socialize and share a hot cup of cocoa. Across the stage were a variety of toys and games that were donated in order to help us raise funds toward our Advent collection for Mwangaza College, our Lasallian school in Kenya. The raffle raised $450.00. Each classroom was set up for a different activity and students took time to visit each room and have their “Passport” stamped in order to earn extra tickets for the raffle. At the conclusion of the evening we all gathered back in the gym for the drawing of our raffles and the faculty and staff ended the festivities by taking turns reading the classic Christmas poem, `Twas the Night Before Christmas. It was a wonderful evening.
On Tuesday, 13 December, The De La Salle School welcomed Mr. Michael Rakeman and Mr. Brian Schiele from Fellowship Home Loans in Rockville Centre along with several members of their staff. They brought lunch for all of the students, faculty and staff as well as games for all to participate in. As a surprise, they arranged a special guest appearance from Santa Claus. Santa met with each student and graciously gave each one an early Christmas gift. Many thanks with our prayers and best wishes to all the staff at Fellowship Home Loans for arranging an early visit from Santa and for sharing the day with The De La Salle School family.
Wishing you the blessings of Christ’s presence this Christmas and throughout the New Year.
Mr. William L. Gault
