Opening Thursday!
July 25 - 28
Planet Egg, from the innovative minds of Israeli puppeteer Zvi Sahar and PuppetCinema, comes to Theatre Project July 25 - 28. Simultaneously performed and filmed live with Foley sound effects (like on the old-time radio shows), and projected video, Planet Egg creates both a theatrical intimacy with miniature puppets and a cinematic grandness worthy of an epic space odyssey.
The visual world of Planet Egg is comprised of found and organic objects, crafted creations, and electronic parts who reside on a moving Lazy Susan like contraption. The Robot, his ship, and all his belongings are made from pieces of old stereos, telephones, springs, and other metal bits. Some of Planet Egg's natives are sculpted from clay, while many are made of vegetable matter.
A love story in deep space, Planet Egg features two unlikely friends, The Robot Cosmonaut and a Scallion Alien creature. A herd of aggressive mushrooms and dangerous molten lava (volcanic fried eggs) are their foils. The story is told with minimal language on a desolate interplanetary fantasy world with creatures who are all good and all cute. And all hungry.Check out this trailer from a previous production.

A Real "Nigga" Show
10th Anniversary
August 1 - 3
A Real "Nigga" Show is a theatrical collection of short stories that depicts the various stereotypes and sentiments associated with the "n word" and its implications in today's society. There are several new additions to the show including a piece entitled Hoodie. A decade has passed since the production's 2003 premiere at Theatre Project which starred the late Robert F. Chew. Yet many people continue to grapple with the term "nigga".
Directed by Troy Burton, the 2013 production features five local artists: Davon Carey, Joshua Dixon, Robert Lee Hardy, Ezekiel Jackson, and Melvin T. Russell.
Robert Lee Hardy is widely known for his portrayal of Stan the Man and his riveting performance in his one-man show Me, Myself, and Us.
Ezekiel Jackson is a political organizer and provides lead vocals for the Hip-Hop band Soul Cannon.
The ensemble welcomes Davon Carey, a new addition to the 2013 production.
The cast pays tribute to its original member Robert F. Chew who is best known for his portrayal of Prop Joe on HBO's The Wire.
Advanced tickets are on sale at the Eubie Blake National Jazz Cultural Center, 847 N. Howard Street Baltimore, MD 21201. For tickets and more information, call Troy Burton (443-326-7174).

Cloud of Fools Theater Company's
Physical Training Intensive
We take as our starting point that the actor's body is the primary tool for theatrical expression. This Intensive offers participants the opportunity to work 'body-first', exploring their 'raw material', for physical approaches to character, time/space storytelling, and greater technique. Through a series of rigorous yet playfully exploratory ensemble exercises, the actor's imagination and physical instrument will begin to work in harmony.
Participants in this intensive will:
1. deepen their awareness, and specify their use, of their physical instruments
2. explore their creative possibilities as an individual, balanced within the creative exploration of an ensemble;
3. gain exposure to approaches for connecting the imagination with the physical life of a character.
