A message from our Executive Director
D ear Friends,
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and safe Labor Day! As you may know, Ozanam remains focused on our mission of being a safety net for the uninsured in now four counties that we serve, Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia and Washington counties. We look forward to keeping you updated through the rest of the year on new trends in medicine ways to keep you healthy. In this months newsletter, we are highlighting Logan Ross, Ozanam's 5-week 4th year student pharmacy intern from Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy.

Don't forget our  8th annual "No Show Gala"  runs now through September 30, 2019. If you haven't mailed in your donation, we promise not to spend your money on a venue, decorations, catered dinner, or entertainment. We pledge that your gift will be invested in our continued mission of providing medication to our community completely free of charge.   All proceeds for this "event" will benefit the Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy patients in keeping them connected to their life-sustaining medications. All contributions of any size are all tax deductible. We have a link to the "event" in this month's newsletter for your convenience.

SAVE THE DATE! for "Wild Wild West" Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the Ezell House. I am looking forward to seeing you in your western gear and meeting me on that Ol' Town Road!

Lastly, please make note that our office will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2019 in observance of Labor Day. We will re-open on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 from at 9:00 am until 2:30 pm.

Blessings,
Shearie Archer

A Road Map To Success
Meet Student Pharmacist Intern:
Ms. Logan Ross
M s. Logan Ross is a fourth-year pharmacy student at Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy. Logan is a native of Macon, Georgia and grew up in Daphne, AL. "I love the Eastern Shore and hope to begin a career in this beautiful location." She was accepted in the Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy early before she received her undergraduate degree. Logan has one sister that is expecting her first child in September. "I am thrilled and honored to be the aunt of little Emma Rae." Logan has volunteered for Ozanam since she was in undergraduate school at the University of South Alabama.

What do like most about Ozanam Pharmacy? "I love to see the incredible gratitude the patients have for our services and it's amazing to see the passion and kindness of all the staff and volunteers at Ozanam!"

What do you like to do for fun? "I enjoy boating and water sports very much, as well as hanging out with friends and family. I also am actively involved in animal rescue all over the region."

Do you have any pets? "I do. I have a spoiled rotten dog named Costello. He is 70 pound pit-bull mix and is my world. He was my first rescue dog and I fostered him through the Animal Rescue Foundation in Theodore, Al. He was quickly a "foster fail" and I knew I'd never let him go. I have had many fosters since then and been able to help them find their forever homes."

What is your favorite show? "My favorite show is the Friends Series. I have easily seen every episode a dozen or two times. It is always my go-to show.

What is your favorite book? "Tuesdays with Morrie." My favorite quote from the book is: "So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half -asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. They way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to you community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning."

What is your favorite meal? "I make a delicious sausage hash brown casserole and it is always requested by my family for all holiday brunch gatherings."

What was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?
"I completed my first rotation of my 4th year at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. I was allowed to scrub in on an open heart surgery with a phenomenal cardiothoracic surgeon, who was a wonderful teacher. He even allowed me to assist on the surgery and hold the heart! it was an experience I will absolutely never forget and I am forever grateful for the opportunity."

What is your personal philosophy? "Be brave. Take risks. Nothing can substitute experience."

Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy was very delighted to have Dr. Richard Hansen, Dr. Kimberly Lloyd, and Ms. Kori Caldwell from Auburn University meet with the staff members and volunteers. The visit was informative discussing the wonderful programs that we have for the P-4 students working with Ozanam Pharmacy. Ozanam Pharmacy hope to continue and grow our partnership with Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy.
