Dear Members of the Holy Cross Faith Community,
Happy Easter!
It is hard to believe how quickly time has passed since my last message to all of you and your families. It is also hard to believe that in less than a year, so much in our world has drastically changed, and yet, so much has remained the same.
We all knew that when we began our Lenten Journey forty days ago when ashes were applied to our foreheads, symbolizing both death and repentance, that we would again enter a time of almsgiving, fasting, and prayer. However, who could have known that the entire world would be faced with similar challenges? What has been different about this Lenten Journey, though, is that perhaps for the first time in many of our lives, we can empathize with one another because each one of us is going through similar experiences.
What is the same about this Easter Season is that once again it provides all of us with the opportunity to renew our commitment to whatever spiritual journey we find ourselves. Like Spring, it brings new life, new beginnings, and most especially, new hope! For me, I rely on my faith, and I try to exercise patience and empathy.
Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta reminds us that “we wait impatiently for the paradise where God is, but we have it in our power to be in paradise with Him right now: being happy with Him means to love as He loves, to help as He helps, to give as He gives, to serve as He serves.” These words have never been more appropriate because we continue to witness much evidence of the true goodness of people. People are loving others as He loves, helping others as He helps, giving to others as He gives, and serving others as He serves. We are being “imitators of Christ, living in love, as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us.” May the risen Christ continue to empower all of us to be imitators of Him.
So, I would like to conclude this Easter message because yes, much as changed, and we continue to face unprecedented challenges, and there will be many unknown challenges ahead. But, much has remained the same. The innate goodness of our Holy Cross Faith Community is more prevalent and far exceeds the “me vs. we” mentality.
Again, thank you students, our Holy Cross Men, for committing to Excellence every day—doing your best in everything that you do. Thank you for Respecting yourselves, others, and every environment in which you find yourselves.
Thank you Parents for your commitment to your sons' formation and education, and thank you for the sacrifices that you continue to make to ensure that your sons are afforded every opportunity to succeed. Most of all, thank you for your partnership and for entrusting your sons to our care.
Thank you Holy Cross Educators for your daily commitment to the Congregation of Holy Cross and for evangelizing our youth through “Mind and Heart, Body and Soul.” Thank you for your partnership and for "putting the 'we' before the 'me'."
Thank you Alumni, Friends, and Supporters—our Holy Cross Family—for continuing to support Holy Cross School and our "Brotherhood for Life!" Thank you for taking care of "today," and thank you for taking care of "tomorrow." Thank you for ensuring that our Founder's Charism, the Mission and Tradition of the Congregation of Holy Cross, and the Mission of Holy Cross School continue to thrive!
May all members of the Holy Cross Faith Community continue to be blessed. And, on behalf of the Congregation of Holy Cross, the Board of Directors, the School Leadership, and our Holy Cross Educators, may you all have a Blessed and Safe Easter Break.
