Volunteer Spotlight

EcoAction Arlington extends a huge thank you to Myer Viera for choosing to support our Tree Canopy Equity Program for his bar mitzvah project. For his project, Myer committed to canvassing the Barcroft neighborhood to promote tree planting. He spent three Saturdays going door to door letting people know about the opportunity to get a free tree through the Arlington County Tree Planting Program and providing literature explaining how the program works. A key part of Myer’s project was taking photos to document properties in the neighborhood that had room for large trees. All of this work will be hugely beneficial to engaging Barcroft, one of four target neighborhoods we are prioritizing through grant funding from the Virginia Department of Forestry, residents.

Monthly Sustainability Tip

Drop the hose and pick up a broom for cleaning driveways and sidewalks. By sweeping with a broom, you can save up to 80 gallons of water. Plus, it helps prevent pollutants like grease, oils, and pesticides from flowing into creeks and rivers. So, next time you’re tidying up your outdoor spaces, grab that broom!
