It’s the time of the year in the northern hemisphere when plating shops take advantage of the colder weather to freeze out the carbonates from their alkaline zinc, alkaline zinc-nickel, and cyanide copper baths.

The challenges with this method include, but are not limited to, safety, the timing of the cold weather, proper equipment to store the plating solution, availability of outdoor space to situate the equipment, and the relatively high moisture content of the carbonates removed.

Asterion Finishing Technologies offers Carbo-Dry, an extremely efficient and economical method for carbonate removal.

The carbonate removal process takes about 2-3 hours per 50-gallon cycle. The solids removed resemble dry powdered snow.
