Dear BCAQ members and friends,
It’s hard to believe that my incredible journey at Breast Cancer Action Quebec is coming to an end. As I reflect on these past 10 years, I am filled with immense gratitude for the opportunity to have been part of such an extraordinary organization and community.
When I took on the role of Executive Director in 2014, I did so with a certain naivety. I was looking for a meaningful change, increasingly drawn to the intersection of environmental and health issues, and deeply impressed by BCAQ’s mission of breast cancer prevention. Its unwavering commitment to asking tough questions and its dedication to challenging the status quo on prevention resonated with me immediately. I knew from the start that this was the group I wanted to work with.
Over the years, BCAQ’s voice has only grown stronger, thanks to the contributions of so many—team members, board members, volunteers, interns, and countless collaborators. Every single person who has been part of this organization has left an indelible mark, and I am not exaggerating. I am so proud of the collective growth we’ve achieved together, including through challenging and sometimes difficult times. I’ve learned from each and every one of you, and I could not be prouder of where this group is headed.
There are many people to thank for the strengthening BCAQ’s solid intersectional feminist lens and our commitment to shedding light on health and environmental injustices—particularly around toxic exposures and other factors that increase the risk of breast cancer. We have worked tirelessly to bring these and other realities to the forefront, and I have no doubt that BCAQ will continue leading the charge in these critical areas.
Looking ahead, BCAQ is entering an exciting new phase of development, with new board members and team members working as a collective, fresh perspectives, new partnerships, and innovative analyses, while continuing to work with our amazing existing partners.
As I prepare to say goodbye, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to each of you. It has been an honor to work alongside you, and I leave BCAQ filled with pride for all we’ve accomplished together.
With deep gratitude,
Jennifer
P.S. As for what’s next for me, you will continue to see me in the feminist movement in Quebec as I return to my previous field of women and work. That field has changed, as have I, and I look forward to plunging back in for the next stage of my journey.
