Greetings Parkway Friends and Family!
August seems to be a month filled with opposing emotions. Some people are saddened by summer’s closing, while others (me) are itching to bring out the pumpkin spice and fall decor in hopes it motivates the weather to chill. Literally. Some parents are lifting their hands in praise for their children’s return to school, while others feel empty after dropping off their college student and leaving them alone in the big, bad, world. Some students are excited about going back to school, while others are full of anxiety with pressure and changes that come with academics and adolescence.
As the wave of summer’s closing crashes on the shore and erases the footprints in the sand, may we embrace the new clean canvas. Wherever you find yourself this season, I pray for your willingness to inhale your purpose and exhale your fears. As you stand in the sand and look out into the horizon, know that you are not alone. You are loved. You are significant. And God’s presence surrounds every season you shift through.
A few updates on what’s happening at Parkway…
Worship this Sunday 8/21
Heads up, the Percivals will be out of town! Actually, out of the country… we are going on a cruise. We booked this trip back in April and although it feels like the worst time to take vacation, maybe it’s actually more than serendipitous. Possibly even Spirit led. Either way, we plan to enjoy our time together as we make memories with our son on the “big, big, boat”! I’m sure this trip will provide a plethora of sermon content. Speaking of talking trash on my son in sermons … our guest preacher this Sunday is my very own father, Dr. Mark Young. It’s only fair that I let him come and knock me down a few pegs and avenge his grandson by providing embarrassing stories of my life. So although I won’t be able to see you this Sunday, I’ll still be worshipping with you online in the middle of the ocean!
Church offices will be closed on 8/30
A Memorial Service to celebrate our beloved Shaan Tippett will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, August 30th, 2022, at Grace Fellowship Church (main campus), located at 2655 South Mason Road in Katy, Texas. The service will also be live streamed for those unable to attend in person, and additional login details will be provided on social media a few days before the service.
Flowers are welcome and will only be accepted on August 29th and the morning of August 30th before 10 am at Grace Fellowship Church (main campus). The family encourages Memorials to be made to the charity of your choice.
If you have any questions about Parkway and the ministries we offer, please contact me and I would love to connect you with service and growth opportunities. You can always visit our website or Facebook to learn about upcoming events/ministries or to see what our people have been doing. A huge THANK YOU goes out to all the volunteers that have helped with hosting Family Promise on our campus this week. Audrey and her team have been an exemplary model of our mission statement and have bent over backwards to provide dignified service to families in need. Check out some of their efforts on our Facebook and pray about how you could possibly help serve in the future!
