Philip Hamilton Pritchett '59

1938 -2024

Memorial Service set for August 28

Tau brother Phil Pritchett '59 died peacefully at home on August 16, 2024 in Dallas. He was 85 years old.

His diverse career included executive positions at two major life insurance companies, co-founding (along with his brothers) Cine Film Systems, serving as its CEO until the company's sale, and later serving in executive positions in the Oil & Gas Industry.

One of four Pritchett brothers to pledge Kappa Sigma Tau Chapter, Phil served as Grand Master his senior year at UT Austin, where he graduated with a business degree. Throughout his life, he maintained close friendships with many of his Kappa Sig brothers.

"Phil Pritchett was the Kappa Sig you always liked," said Tau brother Bill Norman '58. "Happy to talk to you, always with honest answers, factual, prompt, and pertinent. Not every brother gets through the Pearly Gates, but Phil did."

Phil's priorities were his faith, family, friends, and country. He was a long-time member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

"Phil was a fantastic brother," said Jim Pritchett '71. "He taught me so much, by example and with words about life, sports, business, being a husband/father and my faith. Our whole family will miss him dearly."

He is survived by his loving wife, Happy Costello Pritchett, his children, Philip Hamilton Pritchett Jr. (Hallie), John Costello Pritchett (Alice), and Sarah Pritchett Wittenbraker (Rick); ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; his brothers Stephen Douglas Pritchett (Susan) and James Walter Pritchett (Mick).

A service to honor Phil's life will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 28, at 10:00 am.
