Tau alumnus William “Billy” Sidney Vaughn passed away on December 9, 2017 in Houston.
After growing up in Bay City, Texas, he attended University of Texas in Austin where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
"Billy and I were lifelong friends after meeting as Kappa Sigs at the University of Texas in 1961,” said Tau brother Nick Kralj ’62. "Throughout his life he was generous, upbeat and an all-around great guy. Every time we spoke, he mentioned how proud he was of his family. Shortly before he passed he called me trying to help a friend who needed an organ transplant, never mentioning to me that he was ill himself. He exemplified all the things that our brothers strive for in life: honesty, loyalty, integrity including cheerfulness and strength during times of adversity. I will miss my great friend!”
After graduating from UT, he met and married his wife of 43 years, Gwendolyn. Bill was the founder and CEO of North American Solutions, Inc. until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing in Telluride and playing golf. He had many passions, but none higher than his wife and family. He led by example and loved his family more than anything. He never backed down from a challenge and lived life to the fullest. Bill was a loyal friend. He was patient, funny, kind, smart and fun.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn, son Jack Melton (wife, Sharon), daughter Kimberly Melton, three grandchildren: Kristen, Clay and Kathryn Melton.
