Independent Bookstore Day is Coming!
Saturday, April 27

It's hard to believe it's been a half decade since the community started celebrating Independent Bookstore Day, but it's true and it's coming again soon. All day long on Saturday, April 27th, we'll be celebrating what it means to be an indie!

Keep your eyes on both our FACEBOOK page and our EVENTS page as we roll out announcements of our upcoming big event, where we'll be hosting some of our favorite authors and fun activities for all ages!

Jacqueline Woodson Time and Place!

Last issue, we announced Jacqueline Woodson is coming to The Bookies and to stay tuned for the time and location. Well, we have it!

In her role as the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature, Jacqueline Woodson will be joining us for a community event on Thursday, May 2nd, from 5:30pm-7:00pm, at Hallett Academy (2950 Jasmine St. Denver, CO 80207).

Paul Aertker's POSTHUMOUS honored

The Bookies' close friend, and a writer Bookie Larry Yoder likes to refer to as "The Bookies' own Paul Aertker", has a lot of reasons to celebrate right now. His newest novel, POSTHUMOUS, is getting the attention our staff knew it deserved. The novel, which we just got back in stock, was just announced as a FOREWORD INDIES FINALIST after being honored with the Spark Honor Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators.

"We have been thrilled with the success of POSTHUMOUS and excited by its momentum," Paul said.

The book has been a runaway hit in our store and we're happy to announce that Paul will be in-store signing it, and his other books, as one of our special guests on Independent Bookstore Day on April 27th.

Fresh Ink
A Gentleman in paperback, new Nate, new Mo, new Henkes. It's all here!

What can we say about this incredible novel that hasn't already been said? On the list of Presidents, a bestseller for nearly three years, and finally in paperback! If you've waited this long, your patience has paid off. See why the world fell in love with Count Rostov and his hotel/prison.
A Bookie Larry Yoder Pick
This novel is an incredibly touching story of family, Paris, mental illness, tragedy, and triumph. It must be experienced.
This sci-fi debut is part space opera, part mystery, all adventure. Martine's already making the rounds as a possible 'who to read next' for the genre, and this debut is making fans believe.
Lincoln Pierce
The newest volume in the bestselling, kid-beloved, can't-keep-on-our-shelves-because-every-reader-wants-them, BIG NATE series is here! Allergies, snowball fights, showdowns!
Kevin Henkes
You know his picture books, now fall in love with his incredible prose. Henkes's novel is about an unforgettable spring break for a seventh grader who has to come to terms with friendship, death, and what it means to be a young person dealing with the ups and downs of life.

Mo Willems & Amber Ren
Willems is back with a brand new book and a brand new direction in partnership with Ren. This is a story of belief, achievement, and the power of music.

The Game Board
Our game expert has the new hit!

Impact is a dice rolling game for 2-5 people but plays best with 4-5 players.

Each player starts with several dice. On each person's turn, a die is thrown in the box(arena). If it matches the symbol of dice already in the arena, they are collected and the player's turn is over.
If there is no match, the player can throw another die or pass. However, when a player runs out of dice to throw, they are eliminated from the game.
Simple but addictive! There are several variations of the game to make things more interesting. Game size makes this a good choice for travel. To see more, check out all these videos about the game!

One Week Left to Bring in Your Glasses!
Don't forget that your Bookies store has partnered with the Lions Club to collect used eyeglasses for people in need. We'll be finishing up our collecting and turning over all the glasses on Saturday, April 6th and at 11:00am we'll be doing special storytimes, author appearances, and more! Click here for more details.
