We are proud to announce that Thomas Thomann, PhD, PE has joined GeoDesign, Inc. as a Principal Engineer. Tom will lead our Metro New York consulting practice. Tom earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College and both his M.S. and PHD degrees in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical concentration) from the University of Michigan.  

 

Tom brings 25 years of experience to GeoDesign. During a distinguished career at Woodward Clyde and URS, Tom provided geotechnical and earthquake engineering services for major bridges, buildings, slopes, landfills, and dams. Some of his notable projects include:

• Geotechnical earthquake engineering for buildings and bridges including the current Tappan Zee Bridge, Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges over the East River, and the Delaware Memorial Bridge over the Delaware River.
• Large scale building projects including the $1 billion Essex Crossing project in Manhattan, the $1.5 billion Domino Sugar project in Brooklyn, the $1 billion New York Police Academy in Queens, and the $420 million Whitney Museum.
• Support of excavation and underpinning design for numerous cellar excavations in New York City.
• Rock engineering services for deep excavations, Metro North Railroad rock slopes, and Niagara River Gorge rock slopes.

Tom has authored over a dozen technical publications and has lectured at the Pratt Institute and NYCDEP for many years. A registered Professional Engineer in New York and New Jersey, he is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Deep Foundations Institute and the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering.
