Lately, I follow fellow writer Diane Gabaldon's schedule and work from midnight onwards. It's the best writing time when the world is quiet, and you have time to think about plots, characters, and their motives, and the often complex art of crafting dialogue that sounds authentic.
I listen to these artists endlessly while working. I am currently obsessed with R&B & jazz artists Raye and Olivia Dean. When the going gets tough, I dance at 3 am to the tune of Dean's Ladies Room Live in New York and Raye's Work it.
Lola Amour's The Album Concert remains a favorite to this day. Music critics struggle to categorize their genre, often labeling it as modern rock, funk, or pop, with influences from alternative rock, pop rock, and jazz fusion. It's all of the above and some more!
And speaking of writing tools, this one is quite effective. As a New York Times article suggests, Japanese walking offers greater advantages than a simple stroll or even walking at a moderate pace for 8,000 or more steps a day. I walk every day, and it oxygenates my brain. And leads to excellent writing!
Last, but not least, I'm sharing a great brownie recipe from Love & Lemons, perfect for those midnight fridge raids. And whether it's for midnight writing or midnight sustenance, all is good.
It's the last quarter of the year, and I wish you all the best as we rush towards the holiday season.
Thank you for joining me in this journey through history and imagination. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Keep safe!
With gratitude,
Mayet
