Origami – The ancient art of paper folding – IN STUDIO

All proceeds from this workshop will be donated to Durham Hospice – Clarington.

Thomas Read will take you on an interesting adventure with paper. Origami is all about the angles and the shapes that are formed. Squares triangles, rectangles, 90-degree corners 45-degree angles, dividing shapes and angles in half and making lines and edges match with impressive results.

In this workshop, you will focus on making a heart, tulip, butterfly, flower, sailboat, and elephant.

Take a cross-country road trip and tangle wonky cottages and a barn along the way. Over 4 weeks we will tangle three tiles to create this whimsical Zentangle® inspired landscape.

Watercolour with a Touch of Fresco, with Tony Cooper – In Studio

Tuesdays, 1:00 – 4:00 pm. 4-week session.

This course will introduce and cover the full use of watercolour on paper in the first weeks with an option to make small frescos on white cement in the later lessons.

Suitable for intermediate and advanced painters.

Oil Painting with Tony Cooper – In Studio
April 5 – 26, 2022

Tuesdays, 5:30 – 8:30 pm.
4-week session.

In a relaxed and open atmosphere, we will develop the skills necessary to quickly lay in an oil sketch. We will use a photo source at first in the studio and hopefully paint on-site in the local area if we are ready.

Suitable for intermediate and advanced painters.

Beginner Watercolour Classes with Julieta Cortes on Zoom

Julieta Cortes introduces watercolour painting techniques and colour mixing while painting a step-by-step project per class. Great things begin with a solid foundation. These classes have become very popular with Julieta’s new and returning students.

Primary Kids Art With Todd Tremeer - In Studio
April 9 – 30, 2022
Saturdays, 9:30 – 11:30 am. 4-week session.

Draw people and faces. Learn shading and perspective drawing. Use pencils, pastels, paint and make prints. Build a pop-up sculpture and paint a picture with plasticine. You will encounter art history’s famous artists along the way. Each week will feature a specific project to be completed during the class.

Projects meet Ontario Arts Education Curriculum.

Junior Intermediate Art With Todd Tremeer- In Studio

4-week session.

Recommended for Junior-Intermediate kids, grades 4-8.

Drawing & painting with artist Todd Tremeer. Learn to draw realistically with pencil and charcoal. Draw faces, complex objects and imaginary creatures. Paint with watercolours and build 3D sculptures with paper and other tools. Start a new project each week.

Watercolour Batik
workshop: Goldfinch - In Studio

Follow along with Linda Virio as she guides you through the process of creating a Watercolour batik picture of a Goldfinch. Each student will leave the class with a finished piece mounted on a backer board.

Draw Paint Create with Artist Todd Tremeer (14+) – In Studio
April 14 – May 5, 2022
Thursdays, 6:00 – 8:30 pm.
4-week session.

Explore the craft of drawing and painting with artist Todd Tremeer. Apply the rules of perspective, light, shade and texture to make original art. Use and combine your favourite art tools: pencil, ballpoint pen, pencil crayon and watercolour paint.

Learn to select the best tool for the job. Pencil is best for careful linework; charcoal and watercolour is good for fast dark shading. Discover how and why pencils come in different hardness. Each session will balance between short-focused skill-building exercises and one or two sustained multi-week ‘long drawings’.

Come join us and draw—no previous drawing experience is required.

Create Your Own Character with Mike Goldstein - In Studio

An interactive, fast-paced and fun workshop for beginners from Mike Goldstein on how to create and draw a character of your own – human or non-human – and make it come to life.

Learn how to give your character a personality, skills, powers, clothing, historical background, motivation, flaws etc. Draw your character in dynamic action poses.

The Natural Gardener, via Zoom
With the coming of spring, A Gift of Art is hosting an online talk with Sher Leetooze titled "The Natural Gardener".

The talk takes place on Zoom on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, from 2 PM to 3 PM.

The talk discusses pollinators such as bees, butterflies and birds and what they can do for your garden. It will also discuss companion planting and how best to care for your garden.

Member and Non-Member cost: $5.00, and no charge for one extra participant.

Sher Leetooze will return for another talk on May 10th entitled "Edible and Medicinal Plants" Stay tuned for more information.

Stephen Snider

Stephen graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design and has worked as a freelance illustrator for 36 years. He has worked for advertising agencies, book and magazine publishers, the Canadian War Museum, and many corporations. He's been teaching for 15 years now and is busy with regular classes, demos and workshops.

Also busy with ongoing commissions for private and corporate clients. He's married with two children and works out of his Port Hope studio. You can view Stephen's works on his Facebook page and his website via the links below.
