Earlier this month, we launched The Myth of Manhood by mentor Nyika Muyambo, the first book in our Voices of Transformation series. Rooted in lived experience and mentorship, the book explores masculinity, healing, and the possibility of change, themes that sit at the very heart of our work.

Redefining masculinity through mentorship
Growing up in a deeply patriarchal community, Nqobile inherited beliefs about women and girls that shaped how he behaved at home and at school.
Everything began to change when he joined the Sisonke Boys Club, led by mentor Nyika Muyambo. Through mentorship, honest conversations, and new ways of thinking, Nqobile learned what respect, equality, and shared responsibility truly look like.
Today, he is part of a new generation of young men committed to shaping communities where girls and boys stand side by side, building a future grounded in dignity, empathy, and equality.

Rising Above the Odds
Ayanda’s journey began with hardship. There were days she could not attend school because her family could not afford the fees.
Through her involvement in Sisonke, and later the iTHUBA Alumni Club, Ayanda found mentors who believed in her potential and encouraged her to keep going. Today, she is employed at Furusa Guest House, a place familiar to many in the GSGC community and a long-standing partner in our journey.
Seeing Ayanda step into employment there feels like a full-circle moment. Her story reflects not only her own courage and persistence, but also the power of mentorship, community, and partnerships built on trust.
