THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER
Well, whether you know it or not, we are officially in the "Dog Days of Summer"...ugh.
This is the stretch of yucky, horrible, sticky heat period of time, usually starting in late July...and yes folks...lasting all the way through September. And because of the effects of "global warming," now this oppressive swelter has been lasting into October!
"Dog Days of Summer"...interesting phrase...but where did it start? Who decided this is what we should call these brutally hot end of summer weeks?
I decided to do a little investigation as to how this "dog days" phrase was coined in the first place...not that it would cool me down at all...but, you know, I was curious...

What Are the Dog Days of Summer?
The term “Dog Days” traditionally refers to a period of particularly hot and humid weather occurring during the summer months of July and August in the Northern Hemisphere.
In ancient Greece and Rome, the Dog Days were believed to be a time of drought, bad luck, and unrest, when dogs and men alike would be driven mad by the extreme heat!
In ancient Greece and Rome, the Dog Days were believed to be a time of drought, bad luck, and unrest, when dogs and men alike would be driven mad by the extreme heat! Today, the phrase doesn’t conjure up such bad imagery. Instead, the Dog Days are associated purely with the time of summer’s peak temperatures and humidity.

Why Are They Called the “Dog Days” of Summer?
This period of sweltering weather coincides with the year’s heliacal (meaning “at sunrise”) rising of Sirius, the Dog Star. Sirius is part of the constellation Canis Majoris—the “Greater Dog”—which is where Sirius gets its canine nickname, as well as its official name, Alpha Canis Majoris. Not including our own Sun, Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.
In ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome, it was believed that the dawn rising of Sirius in mid- to late summer contributed to the extreme weather of the season. In other words, the “combined heat” of super-bright Sirius and our Sun was thought to be the cause of summer’s sweltering temperatures. The name “Sirius” even stems from Ancient Greek seírios, meaning “scorching.ter
Ahhhh... interesting facts...but seriously folks...as we have to endure this for a couple of months, here are a few rules to insure you'll "survive" until the weather cools a bit...
*Be sure to hydrate...keep water with you all the time.
*Have animals? Make sure they have plenty of water as well.
*Try to walk your dogs in the morning or after the sun sets. As the ground would be hot on your feet, it is the same on their little dogggie pads.
*Elderly neighbors? Be a good neighbor...check on them...make sure they're ok.
*Are you going to spend time outside? Use plenty of sunscreen.
And...FINALLY...
DO NOT leave children or pets in your car...for ANY LENGTH OF TIME!!!!!!!
In conclusion...there are some rather toasty days ahead...so please take care of yourselves, your family, friends, neighbors and pets during these "Dog Days,"...and we'll do just fine!

HEALTH BENEFITS OF “LIME”
TO YOUR HEALTH
BY DR SHAHE TOPJIAN
Lime is a citrus fruit known for its vibrant green color and sweet yet sour refreshing taste. Many species of lime differ in characteristics (shapes, aroma, and flavor), to name a few: key lime, Persian lime, desert lime, and makrut lime.
Beyond its flavor, this fruit contains nutrients that promote a more robust immune system, prevent kidney stones, create healthier skin, and reduce heart disease.
Let us discover the benefits that make lime a powerhouse fruit!
Ultra-Immunity
The main nutrient that citrus fruit is known for is Vitamin C and that includes lime. Vitamin C can help protect you from infection and inflammation and enhance the healing process of your body.
Healthy Skin
Accompanied by a healthy lifestyle and proper skincare, adding lime to your water or food can improve the texture and complexion of your skin through the help of vitamin c and flavonoids.
Reduces the risk of heart disease
Lime is rich in potassium which can lower blood pressure and improve blood circulation. It also contains magnesium which plays a significant role in the heart’s healthy rhythm.

NATIONAL SON AND DAUGHTER DAY!!
|
|
August 11th is National Son And Daughter Day!!
Oh My Goodness...Whatever should we do on "National Son And Daughter Day?"
Simple. It reminds us to take a step back from the whirlwind of paying the bills, surviving the maelstrom of current events, and meeting what seem to be thousands of daily obligations, and spend time with our children.
"National Son and Daughter Day" is a time to go ahead and spoil the kids a little. Be a grandparent ahead of time for a day, and remind the kids that through all the ascents and descents of mayhem and joy, and however they’ve turned out so far, they’re the greatest loves of your life.
What a great day!! Time to have some fun and enjoy!!!
