Did You Know One in 13 Americans Lives with Asthma?
May is Allergy and Asthma Awareness Month. Asthma, a condition that causes difficulty breathing, affects more than 25 million people in the U.S. Those with asthma may have mild to severe symptoms including wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath and chest tightness. Knowing and avoiding triggers and having an asthma action plan to prevent or manage an episode are important steps for those with asthma to live an active, normal life.
Mia's Story: Living with Asthma During COVID-19
Taking lung health seriously is nothing new for Mia Fritsch-Anderson. Since an asthma diagnosis at the age of five, she has gotten used to taking extra precautions to avoid getting sick. Mia's asthma means even the common cold can lead to a worsening of her condition or further illness like pneumonia. The COVID-19 pandemic has meant additional challenges for Mia and her family, but she's using her own experiences to help others.

For Jen Dorval, running with our Lung Power Team in the Chicago Marathon is about more than just the race. It’s to honor her sister, Dee, who passed away four years ago due to chronic asthma ⁠— and to help build a better future for everyone living with lung disease.

As Illinois state legislators head back to Springfield this week, tell them we need a clean energy plan enacted NOW. By passing the Clean Energy Jobs Act , we could all breathe cleaner, healthier air; vastly expand green energy jobs in Illinois; keep electricity bills low; and make progress in addressing human health threats from climate change.
