A Heartbreaking Day for the City of Aurora... 
The AID Living Room is now closed, BUT WE MUST KEEP FIGHTING.

Today, the AID Living Room in Aurora closed its doors.

For more than two years, this 24/7 crisis respite program has been a safe haven for hundreds of people experiencing mental health crises; offering compassion, hope, and support when they needed it most. Because of a funding issue caused by a technical glitch, this life-saving service is no longer available, leaving a devastating gap in southern Kane County's crisis response system, impacting the second-largest city in the state of Illinois.

This doesn't have to be the end. We urge community members to contact the Governor's Office and advocate for restored funding so this essential service can reopen and continue saving lives.

This life-saving, 24/7, mental health crisis program is closing after serving more than 1,200 people since opening in 2024. More than 99% of those who received care were able to avoid hospitalization, proving this program works.

Aurora, the second largest city in the state, cannot afford to lose this critical service. Please work with state leaders to secure emergency funding and reopen the AID Living Room as soon as possible.

The Living Room gave adults experiencing a mental health crisis a place to stabilize, connect with trained support staff, develop safety plans, and access additional resources, often helping individuals avoid hospitalization.

This service was available to everyone, regardless of insurance or ability to pay, but continued funding is needed to keep the Living Room open.

I am brokenhearted to announce that due to a technical glitch, the AID Living Room in Aurora has not received funding to continue it’s good work. We closed the Living Room today. There has been amazing support provided to persons experiencing a mental health crisis at any time of the day or night in the Aurora area over the past two and a half years by the dedicated AID Living Room Staff!

This will be a huge loss to the crisis system in the second largest city in the state of Illinois and to the citizens of our community. 

We aren’t done fighting for this vital community resource! Please contact the Governor’s Office (Springfield and Chicago) and let him know that the 2nd largest city in Illinois can’t lose the AID Living Room from the crisis service system!
