Pemberley: Please give us a little background on Barham Legal.
Dan: I started Barham Legal in February of 2009 after working for a large Columbus-based firm. I found that big law firms are best suited for institutional (i.e., very large) clients to whom money is no object and who need teams of attorneys working on large projects. I also quickly realized that the "big law firm" is a bad fit for most individuals, entrepreneurs and small businesses. I wanted to build a firm that focused on those groups of clients. These types of clients need a law firm that is flexible and responsive and that custom-tailors its legal solutions to the client's individual needs. Further, I wanted to make quality, client-focused legal counsel more accessible to clients in Fairfield County and the surrounding counties. I think our Lancaster location is an ideal hub for Barham Legal.
------------------------------ Pemberley: What's new at Barham Legal?
Dan: Our clients are seeing a real difference between our client-focused approach and the traditional law firm approach. 2012 should be a record year for Barham Legal. I'm very happy to announce that we've hired a new associate. Paul Trinh joined the firm on June 1st and will assist clients in business transactions, divorce and family law and general litigation matters. If our growth continues, we plan to add yet another associate before year-end. We're planning some website updates and new photos that should enhance our brand. Finally, we will be shifting our office to a larger space at our same location (2670 North Columbus St., Lancaster). We hope that the additional space will provide our clients with a more comfortable and enjoyable experience when they visit us. ------------------------------ Pemberley: Tell us something about Barham Legal that most people don't know.
Dan: I'm pretty much an open book, but there are a few things that folks may not know about Barham Legal. First, I am very happy to meet with my clients on their terms which often means after business hours, at their office or at their home. It's a privilege for me to serve my clients and I don't think they should have to burn a vacation day or their lunch hour to meet with me. Second, I focus a lot of my time on state, city and IRS tax resolution matters. Because the IRS work deals with federal tax laws, I can (and do) work for clients nationwide. Finally, some people may not realize that I had a "real job" before becoming an attorney. I spent six years in the plastics industry working with plastics manufacturers across the US and Canada. That experience gave me points of reference and a unique perspective that other attorneys typically don't have. I think my clients appreciate that I can discuss the business ramifications of a particular course of legal action. ------------------------------ Pemberley: What makes Barham Legal different from other law firms? Dan: There are a lot of things that make us different, starting with our mission: Barham Legal is dedicated to providing custom-tailored legal solutions to meet each client's individual goals, priorities and budget. Our small size makes us nimble and more responsive than larger firms. Barham Legal clients can deal with the attorney, owner and decision maker in one call. Barham Legal actually prefers doing flat fee billing or other flexible fee options as opposed to hourly billing (which can be very inefficient for the client in some cases). In short, every decision we make at Barham Legal is client driven because we realize that our clients are the reason Barham Legal exists.
----------------------------- Pemberley: Please tell us what Pemberley services you take advantage of and what you like about working with us. Dan: I like working with Pemberley (both Amanda and Dan) because they are Branding Experts that take the same client-focused approach to their business as we do at Barham Legal. In short, they get it. As an example, we hired Pemberley to assist with building our website. Amanda quickly found out three things about me: 1) I didn't have big blocks of time to build or maintain our site; 2) I wanted to be able to update our site from time to time; and 3) during the site building phase, I might have to dedicate my time to my clients rather than the site building project. She custom-tailored her approach to my needs by 1) suggesting a Wordpress-based site that would be easy to maintain and update and 2) being patient and letting my drive the site build on my own time schedule and 3) being accessible and responsive when I needed her assistance. We've also used Pemberley for our letterhead and business cards. Future projects will probably include trade show displays, signage and banners. Thanks in large part to Pemberley, our brand continues to grow!
