A History making and Incredible feat!

Ivan Cervantes just set the all-time, Guinness World Record for the greatest distance traveled on a motorcycle in 24 hours by a single rider. He rode 2,493 miles and averaged 124.27 miles per hour. And he did it on a box stock, Triumph Tiger1200 GT Explorer! Ivan is a 5X Enduro World Champion and Triumph Global Ambassador.

In 1986, our Team at American Honda had the opportunity and privilege to set five FIM Motorcycle World Records with the VFR700 and VFR750.

Our world records on the VFR750 were:

100km (62.1 miles) – average speed 146.638 mph

1000 Km (621.4 miles) – average speed 144.319 mph

6 Hours – average speed 143.936 mph – distance traveled 836.6 miles

12 Hours – average speed 144.166 mph – distance traveled 1,730 miles

24 Hours – average speed 143.18mph – distance traveled 3,436.3 miles

The difference in what Ivan did and what we did is that he was the only rider! When we set our records, we had multiple riders. Each rider would ride for 40 minutes or so, as that’s how long a full tank of gas lasted. Then we would rest, and 4 or so hours later ride again. I remember after each stint I would get off and feel exhausted and like someone beat me with a baseball bat. Ivan set his record as a solo rider. I can’t begin to tell you how incredible and awesome that is.

We used a stock Honda VFR700 Interceptor and a VFR750 Interceptor to set our records. The VFR750 went on to set racing and sales records. Ivan used a randomly picked, new, Triumph Tiger 1200 for his record setting run.

This goes to show the world the quality, performance, and reliability that Triumph has achieved with their motorcycles. Not to mention what Peter Hickman did with the Triumph Daytona 765 this year at the Isle of Man TT.

Ivan’s feat is mind blowing and simply fantastic! I sincerely hope he gets the recognition he deserves for such a performance. And…. Triumph rocks!

CLAIMS GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ TITLE

Iván Cervantes, 5x Enduro World Champion and Triumph Global Ambassador, has officially claimed the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for ‘The greatest distance on a motorcycle in 24 hours (individual)’.

Riding a Tiger 1200 GT Explorer on the High-Speed Ring at the Nardò Technical Center in Italy, Iván travelled more than 2493mi (4012km) in a 24-hour period, beating the previous record of 2116.39mi (3406km) by a huge margin of more than 372.82mi (600km).

The record attempt was witnessed and validated by a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator on April 30, 2023, with a final confirmed distance of 2493.28mi (4012.53km) – a distance equivalent to travelling from London to the Great Pyramid of Giza or from New York City to Los Angeles as the crow flies in 24 hours!
