Homeless Children & Youth Act
We are proud to have partnered with Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill to celebrate the reintroduction of the Homeless Children & Youth Act alongside many of our local homeless provider peers. This bipartisan bill will be a huge step forward for families, children, and other populations, including LGBTQ+, Youth, Domestic Violence Survivors, and Veterans in our community.
We look forward to a future where everyone facing homelessness and housing instability can access vital federal resources!

A Home for Bob
A visitor of Our Promise drop-in center, Bob had to overcome many obstacles from his past to gain traction on a path to housing. With the help of Family Promise case managers and Navigating Hope staff, Bob received a housing voucher to secure his new home!
Change can be overwhelming and intimidating. Yet, once Bob accepted assistance and began the housing process, he was able to make the journey to housing with guidance from a caring and knowledgeable staff. From his home, Bob shared a special word with Family Promise - accept.
Bob is settling in to his own space while waiting for some furniture, but his pantry is filled and his air conditioner is on! Best wishes, Bob, and congratulations!

Nick Kumburis
Volunteer Nick Kumburis has been a steady presence at Our Promise Drop-In Center (OP) for almost a year. He enjoys engaging with guests and attentively listening to their stories, as well as offer ideas on tackling their challenging situations.
While volunteering at OP, Nick has discovered a particular barrier guests face for gaining employment and housing: a lack of ID. Often fines and surcharges are involved, making it difficult to obtain a driver's license. Leveraging his connections with local and state government officials, Nick learned about some programs that offer assistance for community members facing this situation and has been able to assist several guests.
When asked why he volunteers, Nick commented, “I came from humble beginnings, and I know how hard it can be to get a foothold when the system seems stacked against you. It can be frustrating, infuriating, and downright hopeless. Over the years, there were people in my life that showed me kindness when I was at my lowest.”
Thank you, Nick, for all you do for our guests at Our Promise!

Liquid Church
A big thank you to Liquid Church, Morris County for hosting a Community Free Market at Our Promise! Guests of our outreach center enjoyed a special time "shopping" for clothes, shoes, and other fun items with the help of personal shoppers, and were also treated to a gourmet barbecue meal! The fun community event provided our guests with needed items, and the dignity of making their own selections while shopping was incredibly impactful.
