A Fruitful Lenten Journey

Lent is a time to look at our Christian walk, and consider where our faith could be strengthened. It is important to focus on what we need for a closer walk with God in this special time.  Disciplines like these help: giving up something you enjoy reminding you that God is our true joy; taking on a discipline of prayer, study or fasting to draw you closer to God.

When we focus on these disciplines for the 6 weeks of Lent, our relationship with God becomes ever closer, and the fruits of the spirit begin to be more noticeable in our lives.

The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The seeds that produce this fruit is found in our opening our heart to the filing of God’s Holy Spirit.

We get rid of (repent of) things in our lives that keep us from having God live in us and through us. As Jesus laid aside his heavenly home to become a servant and show us the way to salvation, so too we must lay aside the earthly nature that pulls us away from God and into ourselves.

As Jesus emptied himself so that we could find salvation, so too we must empty ourselves to be filled with the Holy Spirit, who is God. The harvest for those who make this effort is priceless.

Can you imagine how wonderful it would be? It is there for you as you discipline yourself to spend time with God and His word and live it out in the world.

Pastor Susan will be on vacation next week, so there will not be a weekly eDevotion on February 27. Look forward to reading her next musings on Thursday, March 6.
