During National Reunification Month, we recognize the people and efforts around the country that help families stay together. It is also a time to celebrate the families who have overcome obstacles to providing a safe and loving home for their children and are able to reunify after their child was placed in the child welfare system.
Sarah, who is approaching her one year anniversary as a dedicated CASA volunteer, shares an inspiring story about her advocacy for Danielle* and her family. Danielle was removed from her home due to abuse at age 5. Danielle's parents actively worked on conditions set by the court to achieve reunification with their child.
Sarah was matched to Danielle, and began visiting her at her parent's home.
“I am a consistent person she can count on. I look forward to seeing her; She brings me so much joy,” expresses Sarah, reflecting on her role as a CASA volunteer.
Sarah advocates for Danielle through monthly court reports submitted to a judge in Brown County for Danielle to stay with her family. She emphasizes her commitment to supporting Danielle means also supporting her father, “I advocate for my CASA child by helping Dad be the best he can be for her. When he is struggling or asks for advice, I am there to support him, which helps my CASA child, " Sarah affirms.
CASA of Brown County believes that it is within the child's best interest to remain with their family of origin when safely possible. We are inspired by Sarah's dedication to Danielle and her family.
