Calling all Spirit of Joy history buffs!

Whether you joined SoJ’s journey Day One, or more recently, you are needed to help plan and pull-off a grand celebration this December. From earliest meetings at Karen Wallock's home "casita," to stints on Court Street at the Mosaic Church, TLU's Chapel of the Abiding Presence and Synod Headquarters, then onto the sprawling Silver Center before finding our forever home on the westside's Dolle Street, we have continued to evolve over 15 years into a church where “All are Welcomed.”

We need to celebrate!

All who are interested, please write a brief memoir recounting a favorite or most meaningful memory of your time as a Spirit of Joy family member? We would love to share these as we work toward our special event. These written memories may be sent to Bobbie Maddox at maddox.bobbie@gmail.com

Your own ideas for the celebration may be shared with Nancy Hartfiel at hartfielnancy2@gmail.com

Guatemala Mission Trip Fundraiser:

Liz and Cody Greinke are going on their third mission trip to Guatemala in January to build houses for local families.

They have started fundraising with personalized quilt squares for blankets for the beds and signed lego blocks to put into the foundation of the house. They are also collecting shoes- any and all pairs of shoes.

The goal is to raise enough money to cover two of the 5 houses that will be built by the team going this year. Questions? Contact Liz Greinke

NRSVue translation of the Bible:

On Sunday, July 6, we will begin using the NRSVue translation of the Bible in worship. According to their website: "the NRSVue reflects discoveries of ancient texts and new insights made in the 30 years since the NRSV was last revised. This newly-updated translation offers clearer, more direct, and inclusive language, and increased cultural sensitivity absent of the unintended biases of prior versions. All publishers of the NRSV Bible (including Augsburg Fortress) are contractually obligated to discontinue selling print NRSV pew and gift Bibles or making the text available in a digital format."

This means that Sundays and Seasons (the service we use for hymns and scriptures) will no longer provide digital access to the NRSV, and churches are required (per the publisher) to make the change. If you would like to read more about this shift, Augsburg Fortress (the ELCA's publishing house) has a blog post HERE that will provide you with more information.
