The unfortunate reality is that the university setting can be vulnerable to active shooters, as are many places you go every day. A.L.I.C.E. training stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuation.
Created by two Texas law enforcement officers soon after the Columbine High School shootings in Colorado, the training has since been adopted by many educational law enforcement institutions in Ohio and throughout the United States.
The Case Western Reserve University Police Department teaches the A.L.I.C.E. program to give participants insight and response options when encountering an active shooter. The
program takes a real look into an active shooter situation and teaches students, staff and faculty what tactical advantages they have that could keep them alive if a situation might occur. The program is divided into five steps and every step is important.
Participants in this class will not learn fighting techniques. The program is designed to teach survival strategies that will save lives in the event of an active shooter situation.
