It is with mixed emotions that we share an announcement today that our Executive Director, Sarah Beckman has decided to step down from her post at Habitat for Humanity Lakeside. Sarah has experienced some evolving health concerns with her family, and after considerable thought, has decided that it is necessary for her to locate closer to family. Sarah will stay with us over the next two months to aid in a transition to a new Executive Director.
Sarah has been with the organization since spring of 2018. During her time with Habitat, we have experienced tremendous growth and her leadership has helped us to positively impact many lives in our community, including:
- Six families who have purchased homes through our Home Buyer Program and another six families who are approved with financing to do so in 2021 and 2022.
- Eight families have had home repairs completed through our county-wide Home Repair program, with an additional three homeowners approved for repair work in the next three months.
- Four Rock the Block events have taken place in four City of Sheboygan neighborhoods resulting in home repairs for 62 families and community improvement projects that have served thirteen nonprofits, churches, schools, and community spaces.
- Through all of these housing programs, 76 families were served through our mission under Sarah's leadership.
Outside of families served through our housing programs, Sarah helped secure funding for capital improvements of our facilities at 1911 North 8th Street resulting in an accessible entrance to our ReStore, windows along the 8th Street facing side, building out our business office to include a lobby for our clients and upgrading the entire building to LED lights. Alongside our Board of Directors, Sarah was also instrumental in helping us launch a 5-year strategic plan in the fall of 2019.
The Habitat for Humanity Lakeside Board of Directors is grateful to Sarah for her service and looks forward to continued success based on the strong foundation she has set for us. The Leadership Team at Habitat consisting of Karina Berdyck (Director of Homeowner Services), Emily Fread (Development Director), Jon Hoffman (Construction Manager) and Kendra Kelling (Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager) will continue operations of the affiliate in partnership with Sarah and our Board of Directors in the coming months. This includes the continuation of the two new homes we are building with our partner families on Erie Avenue.
Currently, our Board of Directors is in the final stages of forming of a search committee and will begin work immediately to identify our next leader. Chad Fritz, our Board of Directors Vice President, will be leading the search committee.
We thank you for your continued support of our mission during this transition and encourage you to visit our website at www.habitatlakeside.com for opportunities to donate or volunteer with us. This is also where updates on the leadership search, including the job, once it's posted, will be located.
