A Letter from the Headmaster
Dear Lower School Families,

As we near the winter holidays, teachers, students, and families can look back on an almost-complete first semester that, while not without its twists, turns, and surprises, has fulfilled our hopes for returning to school in-person while simultaneously delivering an excellent, classical education to our Distance Learners.

As we look ahead to the new year, many campuses within the Great Hearts network are asking families to commit to remaining in either in-person or Distance Learning for the entire second semester. Here at the Great Hearts Irving Lower School, we have determined that the best thing for our community is to stay the course and continue to ask for commitments quarterly.

As we continue to adjust to fluctuations in the number of students opting for each mode of instruction and pursue measures to improve student learning and make our teachers' workload sustainable, modifications to Distance Learning may be necessary as we enter the second semester. These may include changes to students’ daily schedules, class rosters, as well as the teachers assigned to provide instruction.

If you are planning for your students to return to in-person learning for Quarter 3, we will ask that you let us know by emailing Ms. Finn when we return from the Thanksgiving holiday. Only those who are currently in Distance Learning and plan to return to school in person beginning January 20th need to contact us. Because our model of concurrent instruction has been designed with flexibility in mind, we ask that you let us know no later than January 8, 2021.

We wish you peace and health in the holiday week ahead.

In gratitude,
Marcy Finn
