A Letter from the Upper School Headmaster
Dear Upper School Families,

Week 9 (May 26-28) Remote Learning Packets will be available on Saturday, May 22 at 12:00 p.m. within Google Classroom and at GreatHeartsIrving.org/RemoteLearning. Only Art, Music, and PE will include video instruction, made available at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26 within Google Classroom. As a reminder, Optional Office Hours concluded this week, though Humane Letters seminars will continue. Week 9 packets will primarily focus on review and enrichment material, and will not be returned. Hard-copy packets may be picked up from campus on Tuesday, May 26 between 8:00-8:00 p.m.

The final deadline to return hard copy and digital packets for Weeks 1-8 is May 26 at 2:00 p.m. Hard copy packets will not be accepted following May 26. To return packets in hard copy, please park and enter the building. Packets must be delivered to the Front Desk; please do not use the mailbox.

Please look through your student's Google Classroom assignments to ensure that all work has been properly submitted. Some teachers have discovered instances where students clicked "turn in/submit" for an assignment, but no work was attached or emailed. Teachers will assign a zero and comment in Google Classroom as they come across these instances, but it is the student's responsibility to ensure that their work is submitted correctly. Please see here for a tutorial video on how to submit assignments digitally.

Textbooks, school-owned computers, and athletic uniforms may be dropped off on May 28-29 between 8:00-3:00 p.m. There will be fees for those not returned. Families who ordered yearbooks may also pick up their copies during this time. Limited copies are available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition to Dennis Uniforms, Flynn O’Hara will start offering uniforms for Great Hearts academies. A flyer from Flynn O’Hara will be available for pick-up during textbook drop-off on May 28-29. Parents may also donate used uniforms to the school Tuesday through Friday.

Students completing fifth grade should expect to receive a letter in the mail next week welcoming them into the Upper School and their House! Students will belong to these Houses until they graduate in 2027. We look forward to seeing our incoming sixth graders this fall.

The Upper School is holding an Eighth-Grade Promotion Parade on May 27 to celebrate incoming ninth-grade students as they enter High School at GHI. Drive by the campus between 12:00-1:00 p.m. and join the after-party at Pop Factory. Visit GreatHeartsIrving.org/8promoparade for the parade route and and more details!

As a student enters ninth grade, families are asked to select one of two language tracks which that student will follow for the duration of their High School career. Please complete this survey for each rising Freshman student after speaking to him or her about the options available.

Last week, Dr. John Dyer and Mrs. Heather Joseph led an Internet Security Panel via Facebook Live. To view the recording and learn more about the safe use of social media and the internet, see here.

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend!

Sincerely,
Philip Althage
