A Letter from the Upper School Headmaster
Dear Upper School Families,

Thankfully, Great Hearts Irving does not have any new procedures to announce. See below for reminders and upcoming events.

Please see here to review the recent Google Classroom integration updates and FAQ. As a reminder, these improvements, along with the Monday-Thursday assignment schedule and recorded video instruction, will continue throughout the remainder of the academic year.

Week 7 (May 11-14) Remote Learning Packets will be available on Saturday, May 9 at 12:00 p.m. within Google Classroom and at GreatHeartsIrving.org/RemoteLearning. Videos will be available for the week at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, May 11 within Google Classroom.

The option remains available to pick up and drop off printed packets. Please pick up packets from campus on Mondays between 8:00-8:00 p.m. To return packets in hard copy, please park and enter the building. Packets must be delivered to the Front Desk between 8:00-2:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Please do not use the mailbox.

The upcoming week of May 11 will be the final week to exclusively cover new material. During the week of May 18, students will finish new material for their courses and will shift to review work; this will be the last week that teachers will host Optional Office Hours via Zoom. The final week of May 25 will include recorded video content from Art, Music, and PE teachers only and focus on review and enrichment material. Humane Letters seminars will continue through the final week of school.

As the school year begins to conclude, there is much to look forward to this fall!

All incoming ninth-grade students are invited to the  Eighth-Grade Info Night  via Facebook Live on  May 12  at 5:00 p.m. to learn more about college preparation, academic success, athletics, and social opportunities available throughout High School.

Also, our incoming sixth-grade students will be sorted into their Houses during the week of May 25 . More details are coming soon.

The Upper School is excited to welcome our new and returning students into the next chapter of their academic career. The Great Hearts Irving community shares an eager desire to return to the classroom.

The Parent Service Organization (PSO) will graciously recognize our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, celebrated May 18-22 . The PSO will send each teacher an Amazon gift card as a token of gratitude for the work and care they have invested in students, especially during these challenging times. All families are also welcome to send teachers a special note, picture, and/or video message during the week of May 18.

It is often noted among the faculty and staff how this time, though trying, has fused our community and brought our attention to the lasting things. I have full confidence that for the remainder of the year, and for years to come, Great Hearts will delight in a community of compassion and joy.

Warmly,
Philip Althage
