A Letter from the Upper School Headmaster
Dear Upper School Families,

Earlier this week, the Upper School notified parents of updated procedures regarding Google Classroom integration, effective for Week 6 (May 4-8). Please see here to review the changes and FAQ. These improvements will accompany the Monday-Thursday assignment schedule as well as recorded video instruction from faculty.

As a reminder, Week 6 Remote Learning Packets will be available Saturday, May 2 at 12:00 p.m. within Google Classroom and at GreatHeartsIrving.org/RemoteLearning. Videos will be available for the week at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4 within Google Classroom.

While the Upper School encourages shifting to digital means, the option remains available to pick up and drop off printed packets. Please pick up packets from campus on Mondays between 8:00-8:00 p.m. To return packets in hard copy, please park and enter the building. Packets must be delivered to the Front Desk between 8:00-2:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Please do not use the mailbox.

The week of May 11 will be the final week to exclusively cover new material. During the week of May 18, students will finish new material for their courses and will shift to review work; this will be the last week that teachers will host Optional Office Hours via Zoom. The final week of May 25 will include recorded video content from Art, Music, and PE teachers only and focus on review and enrichment material. No new material will be introduced during this week. Humane Letters seminars will continue through the final week of school.

Last week, Dr. Dan Scoggin, Great Hearts Texas Interim Superintendent, communicated that a survey would be distributed to collect feedback, primarily on the use of Google Classroom. Instead, reflections on remote learning as a whole will be collected from families toward the end of the academic year.

Initially, Great Hearts Texas committed to communicating with families weekly. As the path forward clears, regular GHT updates will now be included in the Headmaster Letters in hopes of providing clear, concise information to families.

On  Monday, May 4 , Great Hearts will relaunch re-enrollment and it will be 100% online! For families who have not yet completed re-enrollment, look for an email on May 4 to ensure your kids have their spot at Great Hearts next year.

Thank you,
Philip Althage
