CUNY Callouts

Mathew Rodriguez, already has a challenge in keeping his resume to just one page! In his career as a journalist and writer, he has worked as a senior editor at The Atlantic and his work has appeared in publications including Teen Vogue, Self, Out and Slate. He’s also won awards from GLAAD, the Deadline Club and the Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists. At the Graduate Center, he is working on an M.A. in Biography and Memoir. He says that his CUNY experience has already helped him become a more thoughtful writer.

What is something tangible and specific you would advise a current student to do to help their professional growth?

“Don't put too many expectations on your time in school. Think of this as a time for an immense amount of growth, time to build community and time to work on a project or ambition in a controlled and safe environment. Use this time to build networks that will support you outside of CUNY, as well.”
