Subject: A Lockdown Update: We Want You to Know

Dear Members and Friends of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington:

In preparation for the expected lockdown for Indiana, which begins at 11:59 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, March 24, our staff and ministers collected essentials from the church offices to ensure that church operations and ministry will proceed without the use of the building for church business. We also removed items of value and sensitive information that could be easy targets for theft. In addition, we had deep cleaning and disinfection done for high traffic areas, including our live-streaming spaces. Our church building is officially closed for regular church business and meetings. As encouraged by Governor Holcomb, we will continue live-streaming to a sanctuary that is empty, yet so full of your presence, on Sunday mornings at 10:15 a.m.
Meanwhile, staff, ministers and lay leaders will continue to serve and guide this good ship, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington, from our homes through safe channels to keep us connected and in a circle of care to the best of our abilities. We ask for your patience, wisdom and kindness during these shifting times.

May these words from author Clarissa Pinkola Estes be part of what holds us, in the weeks and months ahead:
Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach. Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely. It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good.
In respectful gratitude for all of you,
Reverend Mary Ann Macklin, Senior Minister
Reverend Emily Manvel Leite, Minister of Religious Education
Stuart Yoak, President of the Board
Abby Gitlitz, Vice President of the Board
