Volume XI | Issue 10 - February 13, 2023
Last week was National School Counselors Week, and we were able to celebrate these two amazing professionals on our campus.
Ms. Claire Thiessen, LMFT, has been with Providence Catholic School since 2017. She holds a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Family Studies & Human Services from Kansas State and a Master's of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary's University. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Academic team and as Lead Counselor. Ms. Thiessen is quite the asset for many of us. She assisted in the COVID year scheduling, preparing for online school and helping our 2020 Seniors graduate when difficulties and challenges were innumerable.
Ms. Thiessen supports our students emotionally, mentally and academically. Ms. Thiessen is one of the main driving forces behind our proud 100% college acceptance rate. She creates our master schedule, assigns student schedules, ensures transcripts are sent and assists Juniors and Seniors with the ENTIRE college process. She even has 1 on 1 meetings with EVERY junior family each spring to ensure they feel confident in the process and receive the support needed to secure a higher education acceptance letter. She enjoys learning from stats and data and has been working to assist our Academic Council and various teachers with test prep for PSAT, SAT and AP testing,
Ms. Thiessen also supports our faculty and staff by providing Professional Development sessions each August. These sessions include topics such as Child Abuse Awareness, Suicide Awareness, Bullying Prevention and Emotional and Mental Support for Students. She is our resource in difficult situations and is willing to walk alongside faculty or staff who are supporting a challenging student situation. She communicates to teachers regarding specific student needs and works with parents when needed to provide referrals to outside mental or emotional care. In addition, she continues to be a resource to the community, supervising and training Counseling Interns from St. Mary's University.
Ms. Thiessen is a true asset to Providence Catholic School. May our Provident God continue to give you discernment and strength!
Mrs. Melody Nait-Sidenas, LPC-A, has been with Providence since 2020. She holds a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Human Development from Samford University in Alabama and a Master's Degree in School Counseling from OLLU.
Mrs. Nait-Sidenas is our Middle School Counselor and 6th-8th Guidance teacher. Mrs. Nait-Sidenas has a heart for students and works daily with students academically and social-emotionally.
She is an integral part of our Academic Success program- Building Strong Foundations- and works with middle school students to ensure adherence to individualized student plans and positive academic progress. Mrs. Nait-Sidenas is our test administrator for NWEA fall, winter and spring testing. She ensures all students are tested and reviews and shares testing data and scores with parents, students and faculty. She can often be found after school checking hallways and classrooms ensuring her students are attending tutoring or completing makeup work. Her diligence and commitment to the academic success of Middle School students is evident each day. Mrs. Nait-Sidenas also supports parents. She hosts grade level events inviting parents/ guardians to campus for a fun seasonal activity with their Prove which includes tools and tips for parent and student regarding social/emotional wellness.
Mrs. Nait-Sidenas also loves books and supports our Page Turners Book Club alongside our Librarian. Mrs. Nait-Sidenas is involved on campus and is always willing to support our student events whether it be a dance, sporting event, or campus fundraiser.
In her spare time, you can find her with her Husband, Sofiane and 2 year old son Elijah checking out the DoSeum, the Zoo or even all together on campus playing the role of assistant chaperones!
Mrs. Nait-Sidenas is a blessing to Providence Catholic School. May our Provident God continue to bless you with wisdom and endurance!
Both teachers and students enjoyed some treats last week to bring awareness about the role of our school counselors.
Thank you for all you do to support our school!

We LOVE our Provet Artists!
This year, we have 5 students with the total amount of 10 WORKS OF ART that are being recognized by the Region-at-Large program of the 100th year of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards 2023, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. This is the most ever at Providence for Art teacher, Tess Martinez.
Since 1923 the Scholastic Awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated artists when they were teenagers. Our students are among this esteemed group of Alumni which include, artists, Andy Warhol, Tschabalala Self, Charles White, and Kay Walkingstick, Richard Avedon, Ken Burns, etc
Our very own, Analiyah Olivarez, has been awarded the highest accolade of a Gold Key for her mixed media piece, Tree of Life, which allows her work to be automatically advanced to the national level of judging in New York City. If chosen, she could receive a National Medal. Liyah also received 2 Silver keys for her darkroom photographs.
In addition, Charlise De Spain has been awarded 3 Silver Keys and an Honorable Mention for her photographic works of art. Charli has also exhibited multiple photographs in 2 exhibitions this school year and was an honorable mention recipient with Scholastic last year. Her photographic works have been selected for awards and exhibitions throughout her entire high school career, and she is just a junior.
Lauren Gutierrez has been awarded a silver key for her drawing which makes her a silver key recipient 2 years in a row.
Kendall Cooper has been awarded Honorable Mention for her darkroom photogram. Kendall's photographic works have been selected for show in 2 other exhibitions this school year.
And last, but certainly not least, Hilary Salas, has also received Honorable Mention for her photography. Hilary, too, had her photographic work selected to be exhibited at another exhibition at the beginning of the school year.
"I cannot express how exhilarated I am!" shares, Ms. Martinez. "Our artists are remarkable in every way for their marvelous achievements, dedication, hard work and the beautiful creations they create. I am extremely lucky to get to see their vision develop, be a part of, and work with these extraordinary Providence Artists."
Stay tuned for a special segment on Provet TV, highlighting their accomplishments. More examples of these students work coming soon on social media.

Re-Registration forms can be found on the Parent Plus Portal Account, under the Forms tab. If a parent does not have the form, please log in to the alternate parent account or call the front office. This is NOT under the student log in because a parent/guardian must complete all forms.
The re-registration form on your Plus Portal includes:
- Updating demographic and contact information in our database.
- Completing Required Medical Information (all students). Note: Current annual physical and medical history forms will be required for any students in PE, Athletics, Band, JROTC and Dance. The Physical/Medical History is not an online form.
- Review 2023-24 Tuition and Fees and complete Tuition Contract Agreement.
All must be completed in order for your daughter(s) to be registered for next school year. If the student is not returning or your family is unsure, the parent/guardian must contact the Business Office in writing by March 31, 2023 in order to receive a refund for the Advance Registration that was paid with your current year's tuition.
We encourage all families to complete this form ONLINE as soon as possible. The updated form in Plus Portal will integrate with our database to ensure we have the most up to date information for your daughter. You will not have access through the ParentPlus App. You must go through a Web Browser (Google Chrome preferred).
Priority for course selection will be given to students who have completed all re-enrollment forms. Academic counselors are visiting with students in the coming weeks to review course selection which begins in February.
