PCS Honored at Texas Independence Day Celebration

Thank you to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) Alamo Mission Chapter for honoring Providence Catholic School at the ceremony and celebration on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at San Fernando Cathedral!



Our Show Choir performed the National Anthem, “Texas, Our Texas”, the state song, and fun number “Deep in the Heart of Texas”. Progressions Dance team also performed a fun Texas step to Beyoncé’s new country hit!

Several students also participated in the presentation, along with Dr. Alicia Garcia, Principal, and Father Pat McDaid, CCHS Chaplain. Pictured with Dr. Garcia, Angelina Gonzalez ‘24, Nadia Trevino ‘24, and 6th grader, Danica Villarreal, who is also a member of the Children of the Republic of Texas and service as the Custodian this year. Dr. Garcia accepted the gift of a flag flown over the Alamo from DRT.

Sixteenth Annual Providence 5K

It was a beautiful day for our sixteenth annual 5K held on March 2. This year we had over 130 runners and walkers participate. Special thanks to all our sponsors, runners, alumnae, and volunteers who every year help to make our event a success.

Academics

Our 8th grade class of 2028, spent some time last week playing board games as part of their weekly guidance session. The purpose of this activity was to bond as a class and work on their individual social skills.

Engineering Design students finished their project on gliders and created hot air balloons. They learned about drag, thrust, and lift.

Campus Life

Penny Wars Has Been Extended to Tuesday, March 5.


The annual Penny Wars challenge is a great way to give this Lenten season.


Each class competes to collect the most pennies to win! BUT... any silver or dollars cancels out the pennies!


Penny Wars, Spirit Week, and Palooza are sponsored High School Student Council!

TPSMEA Solo/Ensemble Contest

On Saturday, February 24, our Fine Arts Department hosted other area private schools at the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) Solo/Ensemble contest on our Providence campus. Students from both our middle school and high school classes competed. This regional competition provided the opportunity for schools and students for the chance to qualify for the state competition in Houston on April 19.


Congratulations to our Show Choir who qualified for state with their performances of "The Boat Madrigal" and "O Joli Jeu".


Also, kudos to three solos who qualified for the State Solo/Ensemble in Houston: Cassandra Ibarra ‘24, Michelle Lopez ‘25 and Kiersten Puente ‘25!


In addition, congratulations to these students whose solo performances earned a 1 superior rating:

  • Class of 2028 - Lilian Bailey, Jyllian Best, Maggie Corona, Amaya Cruz, Isabella Isasmendi and Andrea Lizalde
  • Class of 2027: Azja Mayorga
  • Class of 2026: Savannah Vargas
  • Class of 2025: Carmen Alva, Annalise Escamilla, Michelle Lopez, CayAna Louis, Sarah Medellin and Kiersten Puente
  • Class of 2024: Audrey Doran, Cassandra Ibarra, Cheyenne LaConte, Madisyn Luna and Chloe Miranda


Next up, Show Choir will be the SPURS GAME March 22nd! In celebration of Women's Empowerment Night, our show choir will be preforming the National Anthem. You can purchase tickets here. Good luck Provets, we are proud of you!

JROTC Military Ball

Last Saturday, February 24, our Provets in JROTC attended and helped to host the CCHS Military Ball. Our Provets looked beautiful! Congratulations to Cadet CayAna Louis '24 who served as Mistress of Ceremonies.


Each of the JROTC Seniors will honored with a walk under the sabor guard.

Provet Athletics

Congratulations to our Middle School B Basketball Team who are AIAL District 4 Champs! They went undefeated during district season. Way to Go Provets!



Varsity Softball are starting off the season strong.


The middle school softball team got the win against St. Mary Magdalene last week


Our Varsity Softball played a great three day tournament in Natalia, losing a heartbreaker in ITB (International Tie Breaker) to take 3rd place!


Monday, March 4, Varsity Softball will host St. Dominic Savio for a double header and Future Provet Night! Come out and support!


Varsity home games are at Tejeda Sports Complex (Harlandale ISD) and Middle School home games are at Missions Concepcion Sports Park (MCSP).

High School Track & Field has also been making strides.


On Saturday February 24, our Varsity track team competed in the CCHS Button Relays. It was a great day for track and field and our Provets did exceptional. We had several individual improvements and our relay teams are showing great promise.


Giselle Gonzalez ‘24 finished 3rd in the 3200m race and achieved a personal record.


Also a huge shoutout to our middle school track athletes also did a fantastic job helping with check in, hip number distribution, making sure all the officials had water and Powerade, and especially for making sure the random water bottles were picked up from the infield. Great job team!

Congratulations to our High School Bowling team who qualified for Regionals on March 3 at Bandera Bowl. Junior Annalise Escamilla also qualified as an individual.
