AUG 2025

From the President’s Desk

"At the 1889 Foundation, we believe that investing in people is the most powerful way to create lasting change in our community. This past month, I have seen firsthand how partnerships, generosity, and vision are transforming lives across Cambria and Somerset Counties. From expanding safe and supportive spaces for our youth to helping students pursue their dreams in health care, the impact we are making together is truly inspiring.”

— Susan Mann, President

August Highlights

Safe Spaces Initiative Expansion

The Safe Spaces Initiative continues to grow, now reaching more than 1,000 young people each week across Cambria and Somerset Counties. With the Foundation’s $350,000 investment, eight partner organizations are creating safe, positive, and engaging environments for youth ages 5–25, addressing critical issues such as mental health, substance use prevention, and mentorship.

EMT Program Success

The Conemaugh School of Nursing’s EMT program proudly graduated its summer 2025 class with a 100% success rate. Every student completed the program, and with scholarships provided by the 1889 Foundation, these graduates are now entering the medical workforce—strengthening the health and safety of our region.

Community Connections

From youth programs to education initiatives, August was a month of meaningful impact. Whether it’s supporting emerging leaders or ensuring young people have safe, welcoming spaces, the Foundation’s work continues to reflect our mission of building a healthier, stronger community.
