Community Impact Spotlight

Roxann Tyger, Executive Director, Women’s Help Center

Roxann Tyger, Executive Director of the Women’s Help Center, has been a tireless advocate for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Cambria County. Under her leadership, the Center provides critical emergency shelter services, case management, and housing advocacy, addressing one of the community’s most urgent needs.

Roxann reflects on the impact of the 1889 Foundation’s support: "The Women’s Help Center has been working to address the critical and fundamental need of housing security for individuals and families in Cambria County. Our grant-funded programs cover basic costs for emergency shelter and some services, but there are significant gaps. With the costs of essential items like food and utilities rising, our operational challenges have increased. With the support of the 1889 Foundation, we are able to provide case management services, housing advocacy, food, and keep the doors open at our facility. Without support of the foundation, we would not have been able to provide 320 adults and 207 children experiencing homelessness with over 20,000 nights of housing this past fiscal year. The commitment shown by the 1889 Foundation in support of the Cambria County community is truly exceptional and we are incredibly grateful for their partnership."

Thanks to Roxann’s leadership and the support of partners like the 1889 Foundation, the Women’s Help Center continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable residents throughout the region.
