A Loss in Our Church Community
Anthony Hathaway Father of our Administrative Assistant, Genaro Hathaway

Mr. Anthony Seward "Tony" Hathaway, 79, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, August 14, 2017.

Tony was born in Utica on November 11, 1937, a son of the late Frederick W. and Rachel (Campanella) Hathaway. He was educated in Utica schools and a 1955 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. In 1956, Tony joined the US Air Force and served as a medic until his discharge in 1960. On July 13, 1957, Tony was joined in marriage to the former Isabelle Cicchelli. They just celebrated sixty loving years together. In 1968, he began a career with Linen Systems for Hospitals with Martin Abelove and Vincent A. Esposito, where he served as Vice President of Administration for over fifteen years, at which time he retired to spend time with his growing family.

Tony was a devoted family man especially to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom he referred as "his little jerks". He loved spending time with his beloved Izzy, an inseparable couple for over sixty years. They traveled extensively all over the world and wintered for fifteen years in Madeira Beach, FL, where they made many special friends along with their lifelong friends and neighbors in Utica.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Isabelle; his three children, Anthony "Tony" Hathaway and his girlfriend, Carmen Agostini, of Naples, FL, Rachel Gras and her husband, Terry Gras, of West Winfield, and Genaro Hathaway and his husband, Christopher Tillotson, of Clinton; his grandchildren, Anthony Hathaway and Brisa Suarez, Alexandra Hathaway and Walter Savage, Dia and Dave Viscardi, Andrea Marino and Erin Schurr, Victoria Gras and Tyler Steving, Michael Gras, and Harrison Hathaway; two great grandsons, James and Drew; his brother and three sisters-in-law, N. David and Joanne Hathaway, Henrietta "Hank" Hathaway, and Madeline Lang; and also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Fred Hathaway; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Genaro "Ginger" and Esther Cicchelli; and in-laws, Joseph "Ginger" and Jessie Cicchelli, and George Lang.

His Mass of Christian Burial with Military honors will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either the Veterans Outreach Center or Hospice and Palliative Care. Donations may be made at the church.

Let Us Pray

O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day
our brother Anthony. We thank you for giving him to us, his
family and friends, to know and to love as a companion on
our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion,
console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate
of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue
our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with
those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
