A MAD CLIMB TO THE TOP AT THE MILL STREET BREWERY CLASSIC
(September 18, 2017) – You would expect courses to start quietly transitioning from the fast and furious summer conditioning into beautiful fall colours, preparing for a well deserved winter sleep. Well, the Mad River Golf Club would have none of that! As always, Mad River showed its teeth with slick greens, fast fairways with dauntingly narrow landing areas, and knee high fescue, providing competitors with challenging scoring conditions.
In the Champ Flight, Ryan Taylor would top the leaderboard, with a solid, one-over-par round of 73. Eric Velanoff would take second place with 76. After card matching for third, Graham McCulloch would take home the prize, shooting 81.
In the A-Flight, Daniel Tomei would grab his first win of the season, carding an 82 to take the victory by one stroke. Second and third place would require card matching, with four competitors: John Farrugia, Andrew Susands, Peter Labelle, and Marc Laverdiere all tied 83. John would take second place prizing and Andrew third place.
In the B-Flight, Jake Naccarato would take the trophy, with an incredible 79. Greg Kearns and Mark Van Alstyne would both turn in matching scores of 81. Greg would go home with second place
and Mark with third.
In the C-Flight, it could have come down to an exciting playoff between two Tour veterans, Sandy Zajac and Carl Thompson, who would both end their day with matching 88s. However, when a playoff was called, Sandy was the only one present to answer the bell affording her a hoisting of the trophy! To determine third place, card matching was required as Rod Skelton and Rick Jones carded matching 89’s. Rod would take third place.
In the Seniors’ Flight, Todd Stones would shoot an incredible 75 giving much of the credit to his caddie and nephew, Jason Stones. Taking second, in the gross score division, was David Johnson with a score of 84. The net trophy would go to Fred Cousineau, after scoring a net 70. Second place went to Rick Robinson with a net 74.
In the Women’s Flight, Sook Sagong marked her fourth win of the season, after having a fantastic day posting, a net round of 73.
