JULY 8, 2015 - On Wednesday, July 15th, thousands will travel from around the world to honor Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr., Presiding Bishop of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship (FGBCF), at its 22nd Annual International Conference. In a fitting return to the birthplace of Full Gospel, the Smoothie King Center will come to celebrate the movement's founder historic retirement.
Bishop Morton, who strives to exemplify the heart of God, is truly God's Man! Bishop Paul S. Morton is uniquely anointed for the body of Christ with a clear and distinct voice in the 21st Century, releasing into the atmosphere the truth of God's word, and bringing about salvation, healing, deliverance and restoration for the continued up-building of God's Kingdom.
A Pastor's Pastor; a Leader's Leader; the nurturing heart of an apostolic father with a mandate to Change A Generation by Changing the Way We Do Church. He is the Founding Bishop of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International, as well as the Senior Pastor of Changing A Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA and the Co-Pastor of Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church in New Orleans, LA. (One Church in Two States with Four Locations!)
He also holds multiple advanced degrees in Theology and Divinity. Bishop and his wife, Dr. Debra B. Morton, are the proud parents of three children and the grandparents of six beautiful grandchildren.
The son of a preacher man and raised in the Pentecostal church, Bishop Morton was born in Windsor Ontario, Canada but was destined to move to the United States. God had a special calling on his life that extended far beyond the Canadian borders. In 1972, he moved to New Orleans, Louisiana and joined Greater St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church as an associate pastor of a church with 647 members. Not long after, he became the Senior Pastor. He served faithfully there for thirty-three years. Under his leadership, it became a "Full Gospel" Baptist Church, expanding to three areas of the city, maximizing at seven services per Sunday.
However, after the devastating storm, Katrina, God repositioned him. At God's command, he passed the mantle to his wife, Debra B. Morton, who now serves as Senior Pastor of the mother church in New Orleans. Bishop Morton currently serves as Senior Pastor of the "baby" church, G.S.S. Changing A Generation, in Atlanta, Georgia which was birthed out of the mother church. Bishop Paul S. Morton and Pastor Debra Morton now serve as each other's Co-Pastor. Now "One Church in Two States", their slogan is "Changing The Way We Do Church!"
Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr. leaves as the founding Presiding Bishop of one of the fastest growing movements in America - The Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International. He is also an international television preacher who, for over twenty-five years, reaches thousands of souls for the Lord on a weekly basis. His life in Christ is evidenced by his love and compassion for his family, the brethren and those who are lost.
Bishop Morton is a gifted author and an anointed singer with six (6) Stellar Awards. For over thirty years, Morton has shared his mighty gift of song with the world. His music has shaped the sound of contemporary Gospel and left an indelible mark on the lives of listeners. His impressive catalog boasts ten solo albums that yielded mega-hits such as "Your Tears", "Let It Rain", "Still Standing", and "Don't Do it Without Me" and also includes collaborations with other iconic artists such as childhood friend Aretha Franklin. "Music is just as much a part of me as preaching," reflected Morton. "For the most part, my entire family is musically inclined and extremely talented. I've enjoyed an extensive career in the Gospel music industry and it's time for the next generation to take the reins. I'm closing the door to solo recording projects and opening new doors that will lead to mentoring and producing aspiring artists."
Morton's legacy cannot be overstated and resonates in the both the sacred and secular worlds. To gauge Morton's impact one has to look no further than his son and namesake, Paul (PJ) Morton Jr., who is a Grammy, Stellar, and Dove Award winning singer, songwriter and pianist. Morton Jr., and other esteemed recording artists, will be featured in this historic final recording on Monday, July 13, 2015, which will be held at Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church - the birthplace of the Full Gospel movement where Bishop Morton has served as pastor for over forty years.
