A Message From Our Executive Director, Nora Carroll

Please join Nest in making a difference in RVA! 

Nest Academy RVA is a nonprofit organization created by a group of families who wanted to have a unique special needs program.  Nest’s mission is to provide learning and social environments for young adults with complex disabilities.  Nest is designed for high school graduates who are typically non- verbal and in wheelchairs which require adaptive environments to engage in classrooms and in the community.  While the Richmond area has a few great special need programs, these programs are often not adaptive enough to engage these young adults with complex disabilities. Nest adapts classroom activities and community outings to maximize student engagement.  

Thanks to generous donors and successful

fundraising efforts in 2021, Nest hired a dedicated professional special needs teacher and is offering classes 5 day a week. Presently, Nest is reaching out to the community for financial support   to continue to build on this momentum and address a critical need which is to secure a permanent location for Nest to expand class offerings and engage with more students and their families.

One of Nest’s goal for 2022 is to raise $30,000 from the Nest Family Fun Walk & online Fundraiser Project on May 7th. This will enable Nest to secure a

permanent location for classes and volunteer events to support activities such as seminars for care providers, classroom experiments, and our Upcycling Tote Fundraisers. Classes currently meet in a donated space and class schedules are subject to room availability. Nest wants to expand class schedules to provide more choices during the week.  

Please consider contributing to this campaign that will enrich the lives of these young adults who strive to remain active in our community and be part of the Nest social group. I look forward to talking with you about ways you can participate and help Nest reach its goal.
