We welcome Andrea Tarbox, Steve Fricker, and Jim Kaskie as the newly elected residential property owner directors to the Sea Pines CSA Board. Additionally, we welcome Tim Stearn as a new commercial director filling a vacant position.

We thank Bill Johnson , Charlie Miner and Greg Thomson who are retiring as directors for their service to our community.

The Board officers for 2024 are:

Chair - Yours Truly

Vice Chair - Jim Kaskie

Secretary - Cary Corbitt

Treasurer - Lee Ann Leahy

Member at Large - Don Sigmon

We have been hard at work improving our board and Sea Pines CSA (SPCSA) processes. While this might not sound thrilling to most, as a former city attorney, I understand the importance of SPCSA functioning efficiently to benefit our community.

The Sea Pines Circle and Greenwood Drive Task Force (hereinafter to be referred to by me as our “Traffic Task Force”) has been active. Recently, we have held meetings with government representatives to discuss our concerns.

Another newly created Task Force has been established to focus on improving signage around the Sea Pines Circle and Gate area to direct drivers into the correct lanes and facilitate lane crossings. We are fortunate to receive assistance from the SCDOT, who will send an engineer to meet with us next week. We hope to have the new signage in place before the peak visitor season begins later this year.

On the topic of Sea Pines Circle, Beaufort County Council is preparing a referendum question to be placed on the ballot in November to ask voters to approve a 1% additional sales tax to replace the existing 1% sales tax that will expire this year. This proposed tax will fund several critical transportation and mobility projects.

One of the projects recommended by the Beaufort County Sales Tax Advisory Committee includes “Intersection improvements to include Sea Pines Circle and adjacent corridors for the safety of motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.”

While this is not yet a done deal, I wanted to keep you informed of the developments.

My personal philosophy on communications is to make you aware as early on as possible of a topic that will come under consideration. The following is one of those topics.

I have previously stated that I have an interest in requiring battery-powered electric lawn equipment, at least, on residential properties at some stated date in the future. I plan to establish a Task Force to gather data and to study the advisability and timetable of implementing such a policy. If you have an opinion on this topic, please click here to submit your feedback.

I will continue to share information with you on a regular basis.

Sincerely,

David Ellis
