To the Membership of Congregation Beth El,

I've been struggling to put something into words all day. As we all watch the shocking events unfold in Israel, I'm trying and failing to make sense of it all. For me, it feels different this time and it is a lot to process. It is an active and dynamic situation and it is touching me deeper than I had expected. I've worked with and lived with hundreds of young Israelis over the past decade at Camp Ramah and I'm sure many are now being called into service. My thoughts have been with them all day.  We all have family and friends there, and are very concerned for all their safety.

There is a lot of information out there on this situation.  I want to assure you we are very aware of what's going on. We have been in touch with our Security, K Street Security Group, as well as Lower Makefield Township Police. They are also very aware of what's going on both here and in Israel.

I want to tell you we are here for you as a community if you need us. We have also put together a webpage with links to information, resources, and opportunities for donations, visit www.bethelyardley.org, link is on the home page (Israel Resources).

From Rabbi Cantor:

Last Shabbat the world changed, and we are still processing: our sense of security has been shattered, people in our Promised Land have been abducted, injured, and martyred. As a religious community, our primary response is prayer and contemplation, as well as calls to action. Let’s get together for services this Tuesday night. We may be able to find comfort in the familiarity of the melodies and the words. And before and after the service, we can create a private space to share what we are feeling, to try to process the reports we have received, and find solidarity with all those who are mourning what is happening in Zion and Jerusalem.

Please come together as a community at Congregation Beth El:

  • Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00pm - 8:30pm, with a break at 7:30pm for the evening minyan.

  • Friday, October 13 at 6:00pm for the traditional Friday Evening Service and to be together as a community.

Rabbi Cantor is available to talk if you should feel the need, 562-810-6718.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem,

David Cantor, Rabbi
