Chesapeake Bay Retreiver Relief & Rescue Inc.

Did you know, we're turning 25...

Happy Anniversary to all friends of CBRR&R. We have reached our 25th Silver Anniversary!! This year, as we focus on all Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, we want to spotlight our senior dogs, the dogs who are harder to place, often have more health and mobility issues, but always give us the most unconditional love.

As we highlight the "Silver Seniors", whether its silver on the chins, or silver in the heart, we'd love for you to share with us your silver-faced chessies. Please send in your alumni photos and love stories and we'll share with everyone just how deeply these dogs have impacted our lives.

We have so much to celebrate, we have adopted just under 3,000 dogs to wonderful families since 1999. So many beloved chessies, so many wonderful volunteers and loving families make up our CBRR&R family.

We will be taking a look back to our beginings and featuring articles from our early newsletters, posting interviews with some of our founding members and highlighting the dedicated work of our volunteers over the past 25 years.

To kick off this celebration, we are launching our 25-Year Anniversary

t-shirt series and will have many more surprises in store for you, so stay tuned. This is just the beginning.

We wish to express our gratitude for your support and volunteerism as we arrive at this milestone. This is all possible because of you.

With that, welcome to our 25-Year Silver Anniversary Celebration!

Silver Senior - Chase 12 years old

Super Chase

Chase came into rescue at 7 years old and heartworm positive. Chase was supposed to stay with his rescue family for only three days before being transported to a foster but they fell in love and we cancelled his transport.

His forever family treated the heartworm, gave lots of love and has charished this sweet boy everyday since.

Chase is living the dream every day.

Aurora - Rescue Story

Today, Scott Thompson sent these photos of our Aurora, who was at Sally’s for a long time. Scott flew to Chicago and then rented a car to pick up Aurora and then drove straight through to Atlanta. Sally asked me as they left, if I was going to annnounce Aurora’s adoption. I replied, “Not just yet, Sally. I’m afraid it will jinx it.” I wanted to make sure Scott didn’t turn around and bring her right back to Sally’s. Aurora is a “wild child” and I didn’t want to ruin her chance for her forever home! Aurora had 2 homes before coming to CBRR&R. And she had 2 different adopters that changed their minds when they came to pick her up at Sally’s because she became naughty when they came to take her home. We promoted her many times on Facebook, but we just couldn’t get anyone to consider her. So when Scott came along, I REALLY held my breath! If I had the ability to do cartwheels, I’d be doing them today! Sometimes good things DO come to those who wait!

Thank you Sally, midwest and southeast regions!

Chelsea Daisy's Post-op Update

Chelsea Daisey has gotten her cast off but has not turned out as hoped. Chelsea's right front leg has now healed in an abnormal way.

The vet described it as probably caused by the two leg fractures healing and growing at a different rate, the long bone and the shorter have had uneven growth.

Orthopedic veterinarian says she needs another surgery to correct this issues but would not want to do the actual surgery until she is about 12 months old, 3 months from now. She wants to give her growth plates in that leg a chance to close. The surgery would require 3-4 months of limited mobility post-op.

Chelsea Daisy is now enjoying her new home life and growing a bit, and awaiting her next evalutation.

Happy one year - Gotcha Anniversary Artemis by Lisa Bernardez

How can we ever forget her rescue. I was sitting in the Las Vegas Airport parking garage after dropping my mom off when we got word she got lost in this very small town of Duncan Arizona, population 600. I was calling local businesses "have you seen this girl?"

Finally, someone has seen her "Oh yes, she was just here, took off running and just jumped off the bridge."

It was a very scary rescue that involved wading around in the river to capture her.

Since then, Artemis has made up for lost time with her own pool and lots of love.
