A Message from the President

President Jim Morton

Dear Sea Devil Community,

Cape Fear Community College remains a hub of activity and progress despite the summer season. The start of our fall semester is just around the corner, a I am excited to share with you some advancements and achievements we have made over the past month. Our community continues to thrive, driven by the dedication and hard work of our team, students, and supporters.

Last week, we celebrated the official naming of our new Health and Human Services building at 319 N. Front Street. The Dan and Sheila Saklad Health and Human Science Center features classrooms and laboratories for our nursing and health science courses, office spaces, and our soon-to-open Dental Clinic. This facility, which opened to students in January, has enabled Cape Fear Community College to triple the enrollment in our nursing program, hoping to meet the growing demand for well-trained healthcare professionals.

I am proud to announce a new articulation agreement with the University of North Carolina Pembroke (UNCP) to address the need for qualified teachers in Pender County. This strategic partnership offers a seamless pathway for CFCC students to transfer directly into UNCP's Educator Preparation Program, providing a vital pipeline of trained educators for the region. This agreement includes several key components designed to support aspiring teachers, including dual enrollment to CFCC and UNCP, prioritized and expedited admission to UNCP for qualified CFCC students, access to UNCP pre-advising, and the completion of clinical practice in Pender County Schools.

Last but certainly not least, I am excited to share that the CFCC Foundation achieved its highest annual total fundraising, reaching an astounding $11,104,281.27 last fiscal year. These fundraising efforts have enabled the college to award 818 scholarships to 533 students, amounting to $1,036,232. This support not only eases the financial burden on students but also allows them to focus on their studies and achieve their academic and career goals. This record-breaking fundraising effort reflects the generosity of our donors, Board of Trustees, Foundation Board of Directors, and the dedication of our team and community.

As we anticipate the upcoming semester, I am filled with gratitude and pride for our accomplishments. Cape Fear Community College remains committed to addressing the needs of our community and offering opportunities for all students to pursue their personal, educational, and professional goals. I am excited about the future and confident that, with your continued support, we will continue to enhance the quality of life in New Hanover and Pender Counties. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
