A Message from the President

President Jim Morton

As we reflect on the past year, I am grateful for the remarkable support our college has received from faculty, staff, and valued partners throughout our community. Your dedication and belief in our mission have shaped a year of tremendous growth, truly our best yet.

Together, we have broadened opportunities for students and advanced programs that strive toward meeting our region’s workforce needs. The progress we’ve made is a testament to the collective effort of so many, and it once again brought national attention to our college. These recognitions speak to the vitality and momentum of CFCC and the meaningful impact of the work we do each day.

As we look toward 2026, I am excited for what lies ahead. The continued commitment of our faculty and staff, along with the strong support of our community partners, positions us for an even more impactful year. Thank you for all you do for our students and for the communities we serve.

In Case You Missed It

CFCC students rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on archaeology lab, processing artifacts from the 1760s unearthed at the historic Public Archaeology Corp's Quince Alley site. The opportunity gave students a tangible connection to the past, turning what would've been a traditional final exam into an immersive dive into Wilmington's colonial-era history.

CFCC is now offering a North Carolina Community Health Worker course that prepares students for state certification. The program encompasses nine core competencies and addresses key health and social issues, teaching participants to connect clients with essential community resources. Upon completion, students will be eligible to become NC Certified Community Health Workers.

A new Introduction to Battery Electric Vehicle Safety course begins in January 2026, providing students and automotive professionals with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills to work safely with fully electric vehicles. As demand for EVs grows, the course offers foundational training in high-voltage systems, charging infrastructure, safety protocols, and diagnostic tools.

Featured Sea Devils

December graduate, Jacob Freeland, completed CFCC's Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technology program, the very program his late father, former instructor Patrick Freeland, helped build. After connecting with Salem Leasing at CFCC's apprenticeship fair, Jacob is now working toward becoming a master technician, proudly continuing his father's legacy in the industry.

Two recent graduates, Malcolm Brown and Alyssa Lucarelli, are stepping into new careers after completing CFCC's Electrical Lineworker Training Program. They've gained the skills and certifications to pursue electrical-linework careers in utility services. Both say the hands-on, fast-paced course offered a fresh start and opportunity they've been looking for.
